You asked and I happily agreed:
There is so much I love about this piece ,
I love the pose , the hair, the emotions , the colouring is amazing ,
how you did the clothes, basiclly I like everything about it

Wow.
First, thanks for coming back and commenting on it! It helps me learn.
You said a lot of things you liked, but you pointed out emotion, too. So, I have one more question, if you don't mind. What do you feel when you see it? Happy, sad, exosted, perplexed, what??
The clothing was fun to do. I really enjoyed it ^.^! I love doing wrinkles.

Ok
I just could relate cause it looks like me when I'm having
an awful day at work and I just kick my shoes away , close my eyes
and try to relax..(usually in the stairs room )
I can say he looks exhausted , but I think it's both, phsycaly and
emotionly..
Hope it helped..

It helps a ton, thanks!!
I am glad to hear one can relate to the picture. I would like to paint more "i can relate" pictures, but that's easer said then done since I love fantasy. Young Vincent is a very human feeling character. I guess I should draw more of him...
Forgive my babble. Thanks alot!!

Your english is really good. Are you a native Israeli? Just wondering. I teach English to Japanese and even my most fluent students slip up in areas, but your English seems flawless.
Hehe And I will tell her hi when she gets on!

Becca, the drawing is well proportioned, and the watercolor tones are very nice. At least in this scan that the boy is clutching a picture of his family does not come across without your description.
Cheers.

it doesn't look much like a photo in the original either. This will be a drawing I end up redoing when I know how to make the photo better (or have larger paper/canvas to work with). Thanks for your encouraging words though!

Thanks. Vincent works too hard.
I often get the opportunity to draw sleeping Japanese people on the train. [link] was inspired by a young man sleeping on the train. Much like you describe for this one. The two pieces have a very simpler feel and both look at Vincent and that overworked feeling.
^.^! I <3 watercolors.

ano, I have had alot of different replies to this question, so if you don't mind, can I ask you what emotions you see, and, if you have time, why you think they might be betrayed like that?

When I first saw this, it reminded me a lot of Severus Snape (if youve read the HP books you will know why).
Ok, I see a lot of loneliness, you know, the place where he is sitting is in a corner (like a little boy hidding from abusive parent maybe or loss). BUT this man is looking at a picture of his family, so he lost them or misses them... I think he is about to cry from what I can feel... he is in pain.

Wow. thanks for coming back and commenting it. I haven't read or watched any HP books, so I am glad you explained alot of it further. At this point he misses his family to the point of tears at the moment. Later in life, though, he gets detracted on why he is doing what he does now...

Very interesting. Tell me, is this character from you imagination, a book or real life ???
I should recommend you to read the HP books. They are very lovely and emotional... I love them very much... and this particular scene reminds me of a young boy in the story (Severus Snape) who becomes a bitter professor to Harry Potter, both wizards.

His younger life is all from my head, but sadly he is not my character. His later in life story is a creation of Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII. His life before he becomes what he is really grabs me.
He's a deep character but you never learn more then the surface from him because he doesn't talk about his life. No, he doesn't talk about anything (the talk command on the game should be the listen command...)
So when my sister made a sister for him I had to make a full story for him. Here he has been separated from his family for nearing 7 years. He has been forced to call someone else mom and dad and not permited, even in letters, to refer to his family as family. His fake mom just died, in which he loved dearly, and his fake dad, who's mind was already out there, stooped deeper into insanity. His baby sister was three when he vanished and no longer knows that she had a brother. And now he has to live alone in his first apartment. On top of all that his new job assignment is the same job that separated him his family to begin with, but to keep his family safe (because they hold his family over his head) he has to do what he hates.
My take on Vincent Valentine ^.^;;

IT sounds a very interesting character... Snape is different... he lived with his abuse dad and his mother was a witch. Somehow his home was torn, and he fell in love with a little girl who hung around the playground... later they went to Hogwarts together (a school for wizards), and he loved her in secret... I canΒ΄t tell you more, because I would spoil it for you!!!! But if you look at my gallery you can get the idea of what happened!

LossingFeathers In reply to Veronika-Art [2007-10-02 17:26:14 +0000 UTC]
hehe I might. I won't read the books. At last not in the next ten years, so I see. ^.^;; Both sets of parents have been very kind to Vincent. His fake mom he even thought of as a real mom for a while, and she thought of him as a son right away. His fake dad was always distant anyhow both due to his obsation and his work's demands. He was lucky to get him to go to his gradation two years before this happened.
He harbors a dangerous silent anger that shows only when he is saveirly pervocked. He's a quite guy by nature but events, beginning with his fake mom's dead and assignment to his new vocation, pushes him further into silents till he hardly speaks, but his body lang. is strong enough I think.
