Description
Two helix objects, offset from each other slightly, and rotated in opposite directions, causing them to wrap around each other in a fairly interesting way.The creation of this scene started with two very simple helix curves, which I turned to editable polygon objects after lofting. Removed two of the 5 sides along the length of each shape, then retopologized the remaining mesh to hexagon style edges. After applying a meshsmooth modifier, I selected every other face along the sides of each loop, and deleted them to create the holes. Next was a shell modifier for thickness, and another meshsmooth modifier, then exported the scene to Luxrender. Rendered with HDRI environment lighting. No postwork.
