I bought Puyo Puyo Tetris not really expecting anything besides those two games. I didn't expect a story mode with plenty of characters. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that these characters have gone through numerous arcs because the story just threw me in expecting me to know who the characters were already.
Also, shouldn't the Tetris themed characters have Russian accents in honor of the game's origin?

I didn't know much about the series either when I got this game (I only have vague memories of playing the one game on the ds and being terrible at it). But it made me want to learn more about the characters, the story was still easy to follow eventhough I barely knew about them but I just liked them so much I wanted to know more.
I think the Tetris characters are nice and subtle this way. Plus, the puyo puyo characters don't have Japanese accents either
