Description
This is just a quick upload to show that I am, indeed, still alive. I've just been focusing on my other account and my Patreon that I run for it.But you're not here for a life update, you're here for ART. And possibly some lore. Unfortunately I don't have much of either. But, uh, here's something, I guess?

Manned sensor outposts are small, compact habitats meant to serve as 'spokes' in the Imperial Star Republic's vast observation network across their claimed space and territory. These small cans of pressurized hull material are crewed by four personnel and gather the incoming flow of information from thousands of smaller automated sensor probes within their operational range, which they then feed to larger relay stations, which themselves process the data from hundreds of sensor outposts and hundreds of thousands of automated probes...Which are then sorted and packaged for delivery to various locations such as individual starships, larger stations, military bases and planets.
Outposts like the Deep Space Recon Network Manned Sensor Outpost are designed to be fully self sufficient and operate for years at a time without resupply or crew change-over. This is due to the sheer distances involved in their deployment. While there are plenty of fresh supplies brought on during each scheduled resupply, the life support systems on the Outposts are supplemented by biomass recyclers, which take waste water, trash, and even biomatter and reconstitutes it into fully edible and drinkable water that can even replicate the taste and smell of the desired meal. However, there is always a noticeable change in weight by the crew onboard as few are willing to eat the reconstituted matter.
Habitation onboard an outpost is a somewhat cramped affair. Most of the interior space is given to the hardware needed to process the incoming information, the AI core, and of course, life support. The dorsal and ventral hulls contain operating stations large enough for the entire crew, but are typically manned by one individual each on a 8 hour duty rotation schedule. The living quarters are very spartan, but luckily private; each member of the crew has a bunk, built in shower and bathroom facilities, all arranged around a central toroid that spins to generate sufficient gravity (in order to save the space needed for artificial gravity generators). In this toroid is the social area where crew can spend their time relaxing, eating, or socializing, as well as not falling prey to the effects of zero gravity on the human body over long periods of time. Despite these accommodations, in truth the DSRN outposts are notoriously cramped, akin to small deep sea fishing vessels in the historical past.
Serving on a DSRN-Class outpost is often an option for members of the IStaR armed forces that are facing potentially career-threatening disciplinary action. If a soldier or officer has made a large enough mistake, but are too valuable to simply discharge from service, the accused can instead choose to 'serve time' at the fringe of IStaR space and eventually being allowed to return to normal duty once they have 'served their time'. This, however, is not an option for every soldier or officer, and if the mistake they have made is large enough they will not be saved from their punishment. That being said, tours on DSRN outposts do take a toll on individuals that are not prepared for the isolation, but there have been some individuals that love the distance and solitude.
