hello there !i made this sometime ago, i always like to draw asian looking stuff, people, creatures heh, was trying with a shaolin priest in some peaceful warm environment, i enjoyed to paint this piece, was for fun and relaxation.Done in painter 7 with a touch of photoshop of course. oh yeah the name Shao-leen is written that way on purpose, its not a typo , sort of like a name or something heh bits me.

one thing (or two) it doesn't really look like a Shaolin Priest (nor monk) but more as a warrior or bodyguard...
and last but not least, none of the weapons he carryes are chinese (particullary...not that katana)...
all the same...a FANTASTIC piece of art...

i agree wif ur views...
shaolin only have monks which are bald..
and i cant event recall which chinese age does the clothing come from either..
those details apart...
it is an incredible piece of art nonetheless...

hey there
well i know that maybe the guy doesnt fit in exactly as a shaolin but when i was drawing this i wasnt really thinking nor doing some specific research about shaolin priest.I like to draw asian kinda topics and i just draw it the way i feel at that moment.

Wow! This is a fantastic piece, if not for the attention to detail, then for the lighting. You've done the dappling effect of light through the treetops VERY well, and the shaft in the fore- and background are a nice touch as well. Great stuff.

Now that is amazing. Yes, a commonly used superlative, but I'm really at a loss for any other word. The detail struck me immediately. I love his pose, how you can't see his face. And I love looking at it, finding all the little things that are hidden from me at first glance. Wonderful.

well its hard to give u any suggestions, since i dont know what is that u dont understand, please try and download a simple tutorial on my website, its quite old but u will get an idea about how i get the atmosphere, if theres any specific thing that u would love to know about, please email me about it and ill try to help you out as much as i can.

what i don't understand is how is the character so beautiful and the background is so flat!? i mean the white behind doesn't look like fog or trees behind it just looks like a wall that trees are painted on it i would of make some trees like the one on the left and if you want to fog it then let me tell you this.. fog comes from above that is not so flat overall... but it's really great. cool hat ((:
