Description
~coukiedoe, I did a couple of things with the photo. First, it's best to work on these photos when they are at the highest resolution you can manage. Ok, I noticed in this photo that the focus was mainly on the rock and the background, thus the foreground rock in the lower right was our of focus. I think you are trying to make the guy and the rock he is standing on the focus of the picture. So my plan became to bring the foreground into focus, sharpen the rock and the guy standing on it to bring more attention to it and finally to smooth and blur the background so that it is noticable but not eye-catching. I decided to really sharpen the picture. The result was everything becomming pixelated and rough edged, but in the case of the rock this is no problem since it is supposed to be rough edged. I used the blur tool on the sky and on the water to make it look better and make it look like it is slightly out of focus. I used the smudge tool to remove the pixels from around the guy standing on the rock (didn't want to use the blur tool on him since I wanted him as sharp as possible). I didn't really use anything else (or at least if I did I've forgotten). So that about wraps that up.

I used Adobe Photoshop 7.0 You can take this one and post it as your original if you like - doesn't bother me. It was no problem to work on your photo - I spent about 15-20 min on it. If you have any questions on how I did it just ask and I'll answer your questions to the best of my ability. I'm only a self taught photoshop person myself so my abilities are limited only to my experience. (I'm an engineer/computer programer in real life )

Photoshop costs A LOT As far as ease of use, well I don't know. I just kind of learn by messing with it and reading tutorials in books and on the internet. I also try to pick up tips from people here on DA. You'll find with photomanipulation Photoshop is the tool of choice. I haven't really gotten into any of the 3d rendering yet so I really only do photoshop. For example, everything in my gallery was made with photoshop.

Hmm... We'll, I'll have to think about it.
Could you give me any tips on an effective but cheaper version (and very easy to use - you're talking to someone who is USELESS with computers )?

good free alternative to photoshop is The GIMP, its originally for linux, but its available for windows, also there is photoshop elements which goes for abut 50-100 dollars i think, and that has all thew basic feature sof photoshop. id recomend jasc paint shop pro though, it costs 80 roughly and its got loads of features and maybe an easier interface than photoshop.

Well, I really don't need something expensive and complicated as I'd only use it to touch up my art
Would you recommend a tablet?

id deffinetly recomend a tablet, i used a friends and i got hooked, you get more precise and smooth movement not to mention the best control ever. If you get a wacom tablet for 100$ it includes adobe photoshop elements as well as procreate painter classic, procreate is great for painting and digital art with more traditional media like watercolors oil paints etc.. while elements is great for photo touchups and editing as well as more technical digital art. personally id recomend that package, but if you dun want a tablet id go for paint shop pro 8 (i think thats the newest)

Seriously? That's PERFECT! So if I get a tablet, I don't have to bother buy a program to go with it?

exactly, and better yet, youll have a tablet! trust me, theyre addictive, its so much fun seeing the things you can do with em, it will make just about all forms of digital art 10x easier. i recomend the wacom graphire 5x4, as its the cheapest of them, but if you feel like forking out any more $ it will be well worth it

I've seen people say they were great, but I've never used one so I don't know. I do all of my work with a mouse and with the touchpad on my laptop.
