I am amazed how few people view deviations at their full size. How do people enjoy art without actually looking at it as intended? This baffles me to the point of believing there are people using this website who think the small blury images they're looking at is the raw deal. So much so that I think the system needs a change - either to make it clearer to users that they are looking at a reduced image; or to negate the need for these reduced images for deviations with a largest dimension of less than 1000px. And this is not only on my own artwork - it's pandemic all over this website, it's a cultural issue......and you will need to fullview this one to see it at all; as it is flash.

v5 goes a little way towards this... there's no more smallview for anything smaller than 500px. We wanted to do 500 pixel-wide smallview as well, instead of the current 300 view, but apparently it would take months to go through the whole inventory and regenerate all the old ones. :j
The compromise was that we would start generating those 500-wides and leave the old 300s as they were.. so at least new deviations would get the royal treatment. Angelo's been pointing out more and more that the halfview is a bit pointless for even bigger works, and I'm finding myself thinking the same, the more I browse in v5.
I wouldn't have said all the way to 1000px.. I think that's a bit big. Especially when a lot of people still use 800x600. 750 though, is definitely a good candidate. That in conjunction with the 500wide previews, and the fact that you no longer have to load a separate page to get to fullview, will mean goodgood things.
Flash no longer requires a fullview-click to play it anymore either. I'm excited about it.

I browse with auto full size on anyway. The extra click is a nuisence. The flash is nice, but the weight is a bit much. I don't know a huge amount about flash, but I'm sure there's more room for optimization, 1.5MB is a long wait on deviantART
