HAVE YOU GOTTEN YOURSELF D-TENTION?....why not?
This is the cover to D-tention, my 2007 pinup sketchbook, which debuted at Emerald City Comic Con 2007.
This is something different that I did aside from my inks, to motivate me to draw again. The pinups in the book were actually my own pencil sketches, and the book had 16 individual sketches/pinups.
And yes.... I'm aware its' a little cheeky... just wait till you see what's inside!

Nah i get it. I sit here and have to cancel any convention that isn't a guaranteed profit these days. It ranges from about 300-1000 by days end on the bigger ones. Gotta weight it out, and decide whether paying rent is worth it.

Nope, it was a limited 50 print run (not counting the 4 misprints where there were extra pages because they stapled two copies of 4 of the pages into them -- those were given away to friends). I sold out of them in a month lol.

My sketches go for $25-50 apiece depending on the detail or subject matter (for pencils I mean, inked is more).

It's the economy and the competition in the market that's the thing. Everyone lowered their prices to compete with each other, putting some of us at the point where we could no longer afford to even do our commissions. I had a final sale in October (which was cut short because I suffered from an asthma attack and then pneumonia) which is likely my last commission sale until March 2010. In March I'll be at Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, and that'll be the only place to get my work from me for now.

I see, I know many artists who charge a lot more though, and you're clearly just as good as they are, especially when naughty schoolgirls are involved. Armando huerta has trouble supporting himself sdolely from his art despite his obvious skills, that's why he only draws instead of paints any more.

What about Pziomek, for example? His work is very, very good, but he can get away with charging huge amounts even for a sketch. Is he much more well known at conventions than on here?

Maybe in the circles he moves in? I've never heard of him or seen his work before. I have moderate sized fanbases in 2 states, but I move in a circle of artists that unfortunately keeps competing in terms of prices and so its greatly lowered what I am able to charge for my work in order to get it. I have a particular kind of commission I offer that a year ago I would earn $150-200+ for -- now I'm lucky if I earn $75-100. It's like... companies bidding for the chance to do a job. The one that charges the least yet does an adequate level of quality wins the bid.

That's a shame, fans shgould be commisssioning you because they love your style of work, not because you're the cheapest offer.

I see, |I never had one in the first place, busy with my education and endless battle with my digestive system. Unfortunately a shithead in a suit decided "I'm fit for work," despite the fact that I'm on enough perscription medication to poison a small town and no one is mad enough even to reply to my CV. And that was BEFORE the credit crunch! You can bet no one gives a shit now.
