Description this started as just a few shitty sketches.. then I was like 'I wanna paint summat' so I decided to quickly paint one of the sketches.. and that painting just got more and more it is detailed... until this happened. lolwut.
it is Gideon, an anthropomorphic osprey. but I forgot to paint the patterns on her wings until the very end and it looked kinda awful sooo let's go with this. mebbe next time I'll draw Emmanuel, her juvenile crow sidekick dude
I'm trying to learn how to paint white feathers at sunset.. haha can you tell? remember lantern-lighter? I reckon this'un is a bit of an improvement!
the bg is lazy. ;D I know.
time- maybe about 10-15 hrs? I spent most of yesterday working on it.

love comments!

Hey Kenzi, really good job, I'd say this is easily your best piece in my opinion.
I noticed that you seem to use the same "hardness" in you edges for pretty much all your work. I think you may find it beneficial to try varying the edges in terms of how hard or soft they are. For example, I think next time trying to experiment with say, making the edges of the wings much softer could help to sell the fact they're a softer feather material, and give the whole piece some variety in the edges. Anyway, just a thought and something to play around with if you want to.
If you care to check this out it's a helpful little post on edges. [link]

Anyway, good work, I like this one

man I didn't really think about that but that's a good idea! I notice your edges are really soft and they look super fancy. thanks for the link I'll check it out!

Yeah, it's something I'm still trying to get better with and keep in mind while I work, but it's good to have a variety for the close up and further away object, hard and soft, shadow and light, etc.

Hollllycraaaaap :'D Wow this is freaking awesome...I swear your pieces just keep coming out with so much improvement in every one each time you post, it's amazing ;;

For one, I love the pose and perspective of the limbs and wings and such, especially the placement of her left hand. The anatomy of this is really neat looking with the anthro-type bird style, loving the hands, they're amazing, and the leeeegs. Her face is beautifully rendered as well, her eye really stands out and the placements of everything is awesome...I envy your ability to draw bird faces xD;
The way you did the clothing and most notable the bandanna sitting on her neck kinda pulled back really gives you the feel that she's kinda jumping or swooping or something, which is really neat. ACTIONSHOTYEAH. Especially loving the fold shading on her clothing, specifically on the shoulder/underarm area

Your style of shading is so freaking beautifully detailed! The feather pattern and texture on her wings, face, and legs looks so soft and pretty, and I really love the little feather detail in the tail. But what really gets me is the detail and texture on the arms and legs, the bird like scaly pattern you did amazingly well, and all the varying sizes of scale depending on placement and perspective is just...wow...and the shading on them just whoooooah.

The background, simple, yes, but effective and beautiful. Love the colors you chose, they cast a nice shade of yellow onto the character herself and gives the idea of a sunset
Ffffyesawesomenesstotheextreme. As usual you astound me to no end <3

I keep setting the bar higher for myself! :>
/\*>*/\ bird faces you say? I made up another bird smiley. or maybe it's the same one I already made up. I dunno. at any rate, I just google pictures of birds lol. beaks are hard to draw at first 'cause they're just a weird curve shape but I dunno you just kinda.. figure it out at some point.
I wish I'd drawn her hat like.. flying off. there's no way it should still be on her head xD oh.. those hats have ties.. I just remembered that.. derp.
feather texture and scaley texture isn't hard to do once you figure it out xD it's deceptively easy. I kinda want to make a tutorial but at the same time don't want to be all 'ooh look at me I'm so amazing I made a tutorial so you can all be a little bit closer to as awesome as I am' I dunno if that makes any sense lol
I looooove painting sunset colors.. x.x expect moar.. eventually.

that's cause they're hard so they make me work harder.. BD I have to get detailed when there's no lines to define the shapes...

....I'm onto something.. how to make myself try harder >> << BRILLIANT
thanks ;D
