Description I had noticed lately that a lot of my apophysis work was more a collection of techniques, rather than pieces of art, and while I have been learning the program... diligently... I have only recently begun thinking of it as I would a program like ultrafractal. I really do work in a layered mindset, and now that I have the hang of apophysis, I can really get my hands dirty. This particular piece was created with 2 different flames put together in ps.

Enjoy!

It's called fractal art... or mathematical art. This particular piece is called a flame fractal. There is a fantastic program called apophysis that you can play with for free if would like to try it out yourself.

Check out the apophysis group here at deviantart by going to [link] - They will have links
to the program, tutorials, and other useful items to get you started... not to mention loads of fractals for you to see.
Get the program here: [link]

Never stop being curious!

thanks very much.

Horses were one of the first things I learned how to draw... (to make unicorns for a neighbor).. so naturally, I love your gallery. My fav is your piece 'Too Much.'

Anyway.. thanks for stopping by. Glad you like it.

Congrats! I find it difficult to combine Apo flames to come up with something like this. Excellent work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

milleniumsentry In reply to 16stepper [2006-09-06 17:45:07 +0000 UTC]

I cheat... I make the two flames... then I line them up on screen by using a piece of paper to mark the background center.. then move the upper one to match without moving the piece of paper... and save.

this way, I can line up the centers without rendering it super huge and sizing it down/moving it in ps.

Beautiful work!

milleniumsentry In reply to Phoenixel-AB [2006-09-08 21:00:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. You should def. try it. I think the results speak for themselves, and there aren't many fractal artists combining flames yet.

I just have this feeling that all the work will be redundant as soon as apo 2.05... if they are smart, they will have layered flames worked in already.

Phoenixel-AB In reply to milleniumsentry [2006-09-08 21:44:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I agree. I was also wondering if they were going to consider layering in future versions. I hope they do, but until then Photoshop will work

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

milleniumsentry In reply to Phoenixel-AB [2006-09-23 14:43:13 +0000 UTC]

true...

a good tip regarding layering.. to help your users....

work off screen captures when layering... Instead of wasting time to render, then layer in photoshop to see how it looks, you can simply work off the slightly rougher unrendered screen version, much like you would in ultrafractal. Simply create your layer, take a snapshot and away you go.

Saves me a lot of time.. as small tweaks/adjustments can be done quickly.... and it can be applied to things like apophysis as well...

arethusafellini In reply to milleniumsentry [2006-12-03 09:35:11 +0000 UTC]

Why not just render a small version (with equally low quality)with transparent background? Sorry to but in, but that's what I do (well did, really, since it's been forever since I did a multi-layered apo fractal).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

milleniumsentry In reply to arethusafellini [2006-12-03 16:21:30 +0000 UTC]

well.. with apophysis, things aren't really set up in a pixel by pixel fashion.. you could render it, open it in psp, layer it over your other image and find you need to move the image say... 10 pixels left and 20 down... that is all well and good until you attempt to apply that knowledge to apo... you're just back to estimating again...

while makeshift, this sidesteps multiple renders and estimating blind.... at least... for me it does. I can usually get it within a 3 pixel margin of error with this method.. which is solved post render with a small crop.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

arethusafellini In reply to milleniumsentry [2006-12-10 11:30:37 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, I see! I haven't thought of that. And I guess with the transparency, I could just set up a white background so that I could set it to Multiply. I don't have problems with positions because, well, my experience with multi-layered apo fractals have been humanoid figures (so the pieces are on the center, therefore, no problem with margin errors) - and I need to keep the details I can't see on a really low quality fractal but if used on large designs that would work well!

Oh, hey, would you mind if I add that technique on my apo postworking tut ? Full credit of course.

By all means.. feel free to use it as you see fit... no cred needed... it's just a little tidbit.

*checks out the tut*
