HOLY CRAP, I went into a stamp rampage today. Pretty soon, I'll need to make a separate account for all my stamps. xDEDIT: ummm, hai, guys! I appreciate all the support in this issue! And I'm sorry I can't thank all of you for it! Let me just say, collectively, thank you very much!

I think the stamp speaks for itself, doesn't it?
Anime Vector Tracers: Cheapening the Vector process one trace at a time.
No, my friends, vector tracing anime screenshots will never be art, not in my eyes anyways. It's even insulting, since such things get more attention than amazing art that people put more effort on than tracing around with the PS pen tool.
Not that popularity is THAT important, but you can't argue that a little bit more exposure helps. And doing art for the sake of popularity is wrong. The thing is, these vector traces aren't done from the heart, most of the time, they're done for attention-whoring purposes and devoid of any creativity.
Anyways, dA should ban tracing, or at least move them to scraps. Maybe they're good for practicing actual vector traces, but that doesn't buy it a place in the spotlight.
My opinion. If you don't like it, by all means, argue with me. xD
No need to fave or comment, before you use. But it IS appreciated.

So vector tracing isn't a talent and therefore should be banned or moved to scraps?
Doesn't that sound like a totalitarian dictator?
It's the equivalent of me saying, "All stamps that hate on things should be banned!"
(And technically they are against policy... but the admins/mods don't care )
If someone draws a picture and vectors it whilst putting all their heart into it, it still is labeled as crap?
True vector traces of screenshots aren't creative, but people still have to know how to do them and put effort in doing them. So what if someone makes them for others to use as wallpapers? Let's face it, how many people do you know that use actual screen shots of anime as wallpapers?
(btw, I don't vector trace anime: I vector trace my own work.)

No, no, no. That's not what I meant here. Vectoring your own work is impressive! Even I don't know how to do it, but I do plan on learning.
If it's your own work, I say, go crazy with it. I didn't label ALL vector art as being crap, mind you.
It's a totally different thing than just being a copy machine and tracing the lines of those totally geometric anime screenshots. True, you can use them on wallpapers, but is dA really the place to upload them? If all you can do is trace screenshots, what does that make you? I wouldn't say that someone who just plain traces and actually just copies things puts their whole heart into it. Especially if they do it for "popularity". That makes it even sadder.

Oh, no, lol, I knew you didn't mean all vectors were bad, but when you say Anyways, dA should ban tracing, or at least move them to scraps. it does sound like it
Well, I think DA does have a label for it, so surely this could be a place for it. True, if you do it for popularity, it's kinda sad, but this is DA, and these people just found quick and easy way to get noticed. Lame, yes, but it's still a way to advertise.
If all you can do is trace? lol, that means you'll become a good tracer XD Then when you learn how to draw, you can make badass vectors, right?
Although I must say, some of the vectors I've seen from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei are damn awesome. The whole series just screams wallpaper!

Oh man, I only saw episode one. It's hilarious. xD
Meh, a lot of the screenshot tracers I've seen do it only for popularity, which is kind of stupid, because they aren't even getting any REAL attention from it. After getting said attention, they don't care to learn how to draw or learn anything other than trace or copy because they want more and more attention. They also tend to disrespect the original artists. I mean, if you want to trace other people's works in order to learn, that's fine, but a little respect from them would've been great. Of course, not all of them are like that... and I DO see your point.

Yep, SZS is probably one of my favorite animes ever, lol. It gives a real nice satirical look at things
Yeah, that's pretty low...
Whenever someone whores things out (like comments or, in this case, screen vectors), my opinion of them drops like a stone =/

I wish I was subscribed just so that I could use this stamp I agree completely with you and it's so dissapointing that deviantart considers this vector traces as a valid form of fanart.
Anyway, thank you for making and stamp about this issue

Ah, this stamp sums up my sentiments on said topic soooooo well It's a damn shame that people think any vector art is tracing BECAUSE of those anime traces... And it pisses me off that tracing those screenshots aren't a policy violation if they're under fan art
Damnit! If people wanna see some vector work, go look at people like `CrisVector Now THAT is some real deal vector art!

"A member of staff has reviewed this deviation and has determined that it is legitimate fan art. No action is required."
I can't describe how insulted I am every time my reports come back as that, even though I have decent proof of the tracing. And I don't know how other more skilled people feel every time one of those "art pieces" end up in the spot light.
I love his art, though. I remember having one of his pieces as my desktop wallpaper.

Oh god, when I see that I make the WTF face It's funny how they say tracing is not allowed to some extent, but it's looking like it's perfectly okay if it's slapped under fan art
And `CrisVector has some excellent art. Those tracers can learn something from some of his work. For some, he traces his own stock, or gets permission from the original artist at least... Wish the rest could say the same.

Yeah, but unfortunately, all we can do is report everything we see... until they get so tired of the reports that they just enforce something to deal with it.
Wishful thinking, but hey, it might work. D;

What gives me pain a lot is the artists adoring such a great art when they already know it's a vectorized image, I mean the purpose of these vectors are for wallpapers and those kinds of stuff alone.
They're giving vector tracing a different and a bad purpose.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Mimisaurus In reply to imp24 [2008-06-11 14:02:27 +0000 UTC]
They're like, "I love your drawings!"
Tracing is for practice and practice only. I mean, if they can't do anything but "practice" what does that make them? ._.

I can't understand why dA allows such things. It's obviously very controversial and toes the line of art theft. It makes me kind of sad how such amazing art can get ignored while traced anime bullshit ends up on the FP. T__T
