Description HOLY CRAP, I went into a stamp rampage today. Pretty soon, I'll need to make a separate account for all my stamps. xD

EDIT: ummm, hai, guys! I appreciate all the support in this issue! And I'm sorry I can't thank all of you for it! Let me just say, collectively, thank you very much!
-----

I think the stamp speaks for itself, doesn't it?

Anime Vector Tracers: Cheapening the Vector process one trace at a time.

No, my friends, vector tracing anime screenshots will never be art, not in my eyes anyways. It's even insulting, since such things get more attention than amazing art that people put more effort on than tracing around with the PS pen tool.

Not that popularity is THAT important, but you can't argue that a little bit more exposure helps. And doing art for the sake of popularity is wrong. The thing is, these vector traces aren't done from the heart, most of the time, they're done for attention-whoring purposes and devoid of any creativity.

Anyways, dA should ban tracing, or at least move them to scraps. Maybe they're good for practicing actual vector traces, but that doesn't buy it a place in the spotlight.

My opinion. If you don't like it, by all means, argue with me. xD

No need to fave or comment, before you use. But it IS appreciated.

As someone who also traces ponies I gotta agree that is not really something that comes from your heart... at first. However it CAN BE A PART OF something that comes from your heart. I'm not making art, I'm making resources.

Tell the vector thing to the majority of MLP artists.

Haha I know right!

But most the vectors are used for other stuff. Dunno why though, they might aswell just make their own art for it. =3

I'll never consider them as real art, too. I know they take lot of work, but not so much that real art takes.

(First sorry for my english - this isn't my first language) I feel a little dumb. 'Cuz I always thought that vector was a way for, I don't know, trace like you do with a pen in traditional art on photoshop ( I think people do that ? But then it's not vector anymore it's like use the pencil).Or because you want a '' plastic look '' of an actual drawing/photography for a concept or just because you want to. And in the end the real artistic thing on it isn't the trace but the concept. BUT REALLY I DIDN'T know that some people actually use screenshot, trace and then clame ยซ It's mine ยป. Seems like internet never stop suprise me...

You see a lot of them on Gaia like "oh look, I made dis".
When I can tell they just traced it.

Hey, so I'm working on the picture, and i'm not sure if it would be classed as vector tracing or not. It's fun to do, so I'm going to complete it, but I'm not sure if I should put it up on dA. As of yes, it's incomplete in my scrapbook.

I've taken a photograph of David Bowie from the internet somewhere, and I'm pretty much colouring it. Could someone have a looksee and let me know if this is what you would call tracing, and if I should keep it in my scraps, or take down entirely. This is it: [link]

and when i'm tracing the sketch of the picture that i drew maself? that is not wrong isnt it? xD when i drew the whole pisture only myself... i agree it's NOT art when people just make screenshot from the video and then they simply trace it and they think they are soooo artistic... but if i scan my own pictures and trace it, it's cant be bad xD

I agree. It's one thing if you do linearts to improve your colouring skills, but using a trace is ridiculous.

<---You deserve one.

crazy-Z-chick [2010-11-05 05:32:05 +0000 UTC]

TRUE!!!

unless of course the screen shot or whatever is used for a humorous, completely random joke/comic.

Agreed. Sometimes dA are very unfair, like those ''anime-vector-tracing-artists'' get so popular. For what? For tracing actual anime screenshots! :c I see no talent actually. It kinda puts unseen talanted people to a shame.

lilkty In reply to SatoriPangea [2010-01-08 21:24:14 +0000 UTC]

when you take a picture (like a screencap) and use the pen tool over it so it kinda makes it different a bit but its still tracing an original artwork that does not belong to you.
here is an example [link]

SatoriPangea In reply to lilkty [2010-01-10 15:07:41 +0000 UTC]

Oh god I didn't even know that existed =_= Thanks for the information. And I agree with you, that's not creative art, it's just... sad.

cotidians [2009-09-16 20:24:33 +0000 UTC]

This stamp is pure genius, if you ask me.
I am sick and tired of traced art.
And it can get mighty popular, too...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 0

KajiTetsushi [2009-07-25 19:02:07 +0000 UTC]

Which is why I don't trace. Sure, tracing is fine, but I don't think it lets anyone learn in the long run. Or at least with me, it doesn't. Might as well just grab a pen and draw on your own and do it the traditional way... which is even better: trial and error - once you keep getting it right, you don't need a stinkin' reference.

And as for publicity... well, that depends on luck. There are many artists who ironically don't get enough recognition for their good work. But let's not make social status our priority here, eh? What with cheap ways that can mass-produce "quality" pictures. Corporate corruption deja vu, anyone?

As for me, I wouldn't mind being an underdog, simply because I can do my work in peace where my inbox won't be annoyingly overloaded with messages like, say, "OMG! KAWAII-DESU-NE!!shift1shift1". Even better, with what few viewers I have, I get constructive criticism a little more regularly, which is a good thing, too - I could use some of that to help me improve.

Amarantha-Thea [2009-06-26 10:58:26 +0000 UTC]

i only use other art for poses and never trace.
it's so wrong when they trace it completely and call it they're own.

My thoughts exactly. If you wanna use it as a learning tool, fine, but what the hell is it doing in your gallery? Relegate it to scraps at the very least. What the hell am I supposed to leave as constructive criticism? "Way to follow the lines"? FFFFFFF.

I think there is something more amusing than the vector trace.....the comments.
"Omgggg u made hur eyes n hairs look just like da real one!111!1!11"

"ur so talented it looks just like da other"

"congrats on da arts!11! i liek how da eyes r colured differentely dan da real 1 so creative!11"

.....
And it also puts a bad name to REAL vector artists D:
Thank you for the stamp<333
