Description
Loggerhead 30 x 40 inches, oil on canvas.Completed August, 2007.
Once more, another nod to LinkinSim who provided the photo I worked from. Let me reiterate I do not like to use other people's photos because I want to be as original as possible in concept and vision. But it's hard for me to get a good picture of a sea turtle underwater. And this was way too good a photo to pass up. It was a scrap she uploaded just for me.
Thanks again, LinkinSim!

I like photos they give inspiration to the art while being art in themselves since every photo taken is an original that may be mass produces easily, where a painting is one of one in its original form and cannot be mass produced since each one is hand created, and a complement to the artist taking the picture notifying that someone is inspired enough to take that photo further to more depth than it had ever been.
I see the path of a great sea turtle like a path we all take with uncertainty of the destination, whereby the journey is the better part and destinations are figments of imagination brought on by pauses in the path taken.
If only we could journey like a sea turtle being able to float along gather what we need to survive as we swim along looking at the depths and wondering what's down there, letβs find out and take another route, hoping this time we don't run out of air. Being able to hold their breath for many minutes seems long to us but is too short for those who have to live in the vast ocean.Β
Sure we can use scuba tanks and prolong our journey underwater but we eventually have to go home, where the home for the sea turtle is all around it not looking for shelter when it rains or gets cold, just the basics air and food the only things they need other than a mate and a family to enjoy their adventuring and the occasional encounter of a human that wants a ride around, or a picture to be turned into a photo then a painting, so I could write about it. Though it may not be a story itβs something thatΒ didn'tΒ exist till someone put theΒ effort to be inspired in many ways and through many media.
May you continue to inspire as you already have.
I thought I already submitted this, but thankfully I keptΒ a copy of my words.Β

The reflection and lighting on this picture are amazing! Β You utilize the different colors perfectly. Β I just love all the subtle oranges and blues on the shell.

Thank you so much! The light bouncing off the shell was what drew me to the reference photo in the first place.
