Description
Wild avocados are a Quetzal's food of choice - they will pick it off of the tree while in flight, then perch to swallow the entire thing whole. These avocados are smaller than the ones we eat, but it still took him almost a minute to down the thing! This is the best time for photo ops because the Quetzal will then sit to digest and later regurgitate the pit. I decided to crop this photo so that you can appreciate the way he eats better, so some quality was sacrificed.Submitting for #Ornithologists ' Birds and Food Contest
