Description
Resplendent Quetzal - Pharomachrus mocinnoTruly one of the world's most beautiful birds. I photographed this long-tailed male in a Costa Rican cloud forest in late November 2009. Let me finish a write-up and I'll share more of my magical experience with these birds.

I can see a slight resemblance of a pheonix here, I think it's how the tail is sitting. Nice shot!

What a beauty! Do the tail feathers stay up like that by themselves, or is there some hidden branch under his butt?

The tail feathers almost always hang straight down...but this was a very windy day and I caught just the right moment to lift the feathers. So far I've not found another quetzal image that shows the tail feathers in a horizontal...I think a magazine needs to publish this with a two-page spread!
