Overall a wonderful photograph. What stands out to me in this the most is the tilted head on your subject, the buck. It definitely gives him a lot of character to this which is very nice. Typically it is hard to get close to wildlife because of their alertness to what is around them, so this is very nice. My only complaint is that there could be a bit more contrast, however that is just my personal preference with photography. Also a very light hint of HDR would be a nice addition to make this photo really stand out. That is also my personal preference in photography. I would like to commend on the fact that you shot this at 1/32 seconds, which leaves a lot of time for animals to blur a shot due to the longer exposure time.
Great job on yet another wonder piece.

Thank you for the well-written critique! I see what you are saying about more contrast. I guess I tend to not do so much post work, though I probably should. Most of my "yard" photography is high ISO/slow shutter speed. I don't get a ton of light so it's nice when my wild subject doesn't move. Luck is a big part of it!

So it's not a wild deer? Or shot from a blind?

It's completely wild, no blind, photographed near my yard. The deer are a bit tame here due to people [not me] feeding them and also the overpopulation of them.

So charming! I really like the little notch in his ear.

Thanks! Yeah, the notches, etc show struggle from some point in their lives. Nice to see that it didn't effect him

You're welcome, and I agree. Must have been one heck of a fight!
It just does to show that you don't need to be physically perfect to be beautiful.

One that I have hanging around still (and for a few months prior) has one of his antlers mostly-broken. He's a great-looking deer! And he survived hunting season... I should check his ear to see if it's this one.

I think it's wonderful that you can observe them to that extent. ^_^ I see plenty of deer, but at a distance, they mostly stay to the woods.

This would have been a really hard shot to get so the quality and effort is appreciated as deer are quite unpredictable
and can flee suddenly so you must be praised, do you hunt asΒ a certain amount of stalking skill is normally required
to get this sort of picture CongratulationsΒ

Thank you! I do admit that the deer in my community are a bit more tame than you would expect. It's not unheard of for them to lay around yards, close to buildings.

here in UK foxes are now quite common in urban area's but back last year in the large town where I was working
one was actually walking in the busy main street in broad daylight
