**Not all brush, texture, paper texture are compatible with all Sai types**
Here is how I add new brushes, paper and texture to Sai. Your files will look slightly different. My brushes, paper, textures are from DA artists which can be found in my favorites folder.
If your files are zipped, unzip them. Not all computers have an un-zip program so the download may ask you to install the un-zip wizard first.
Copy the downloaded files to Sai. It is better have copies in case you have to uninstall Sai.
Make sure to copy files to the correct folder.
For the last step, this green Sai application showed up when I either installed Sai or when i installed a new brush. I added a new brush today as I did this tutorial and the new brush would not show up when I launched my normal Sai application (the green/blue one). However, when you launch the green Sai application it installed the new brushes and now my original green/blue Sai app has the new brushes.
I do not know if your own Sai program folder will have the green Sai. If you do not have it and your brush will install w/o it please let me know.
Also, i have been seeing brush.config come with brushes files. that file goes into the general Sai folder.

what version of Sai are you using?
how did you make the texture (what program)?
And what image type is it saved as?

Umm... I downloaded the texture... How can I see my version of SAI? It's in .bmp type.

Okay the image type is right.
Locate your file folder for sai. find the app shortcut-right click-properties. that may not be an issue, but from what I have read it seems older Sai have problems accepting new brushes and textures.
Did you place texture in "brushtext"' or "papertex" folder?
Do you have the "start sai" exe? It is necessary to update the Sai software. I got mine from

I put it in papertex.
I do have the Start-Sai.exe, as i always use it to update the program when i install textures.

Are updating a "background" texture(found in panel above layers) or a brush texture(found in panel with brushes)?
Folders do have their limits on how many files they can support. I had to delete several brush and textures I did not use b/c mine would not update anymore.

I'm sorry you said you did. Research how many files can be in the paper folder. maybe you met your limit. I would try removing a few brushes that you do not need and try the start sai exe again.

ahh i don't have that start-sai thing ;-; i made the paper textures work but when i put brushes or elemap things it doesen't make them appear ( but maybe that's beacause i don't have the start-sai.. )

Is your Sai purhcased or free??
Try this step in finding the software folder:
-search-sai-right click-open folder location.

You should see the main folder.
Try to move the enitre sai folder to a location you can remember that way when you get new brush, texture,etc you can add them easier.

My "start ai"Β app came from this DA member when I got their textures and brushΒ toadsdontexist.deviantart.com/β¦. Also, depending on what Sai version you have "Start Sai" may not work. Sorry that's all I know.
Here is another tutorial from the same DA member that helped me. Try downloading one of their brushes/textures and see if you are able to get the sai app:

Um how do you actually get the textures in the files? I have the links to some textures and i can't figure out how to get them in the files..

Im sorry I am a bit confused. Are you asking where to find the Sai file folders or how to put the textures onto your computer (from a download)? Can you show me the link you have?

wow confusing site!! :/
it looks like you have to download them individually or as a zip file. but to use a zip file you need a program that can open the zip file. Also, there are 26 texture files. 1st page has 18 texturesΒ and the 2nd page has 8. The "download as zip" option is at the very bottom of the page on each page.
When you download the files make sure everything goes to your download folder so it's easier to keep track of which ones you downloaded already, once your done downloading, move the files like my tutorial shows.
I use WinZip to open zip files, but that's a whole nother tutorial. Ask the owner of the textures for help with that.

sorry for the late reply! I assume it would since file folders are generally stored in a smilar manner. I hope you have not moved any files around since then. It's best to search Sai MAC tutorials before attempting.
