It uses pressure bars, what our normal Bar pressure, so we/I understand?

Earth's normal pressure is 1 bar at sea level Venice, in real life, is about 90 bar but has been affected by large scale geoengineering here.

I reread this and I think you meant Venus, and not Venice

Tell me, would you think about using my flags for this timeline?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to 1Wyrmshadow1 [2011-02-28 13:26:39 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't, but not because I dont like them I've got a lore stretching back quite a way now, and I'm in the process of running up some flags for the varied factions which are based off the flags from earlier in the timeline.

It has certainly taken me a while, this is true lol

Is anyone going to attemt to reterraform Earth?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to morbiusgreen [2011-02-21 09:37:06 +0000 UTC]

Well the technology is there - Venus' atmosphere has been reduced by around a third since the first landings - but the problem is the radiation. Earth's air, land and water will likely remaing poisonous for many hundreds of millennia. Currently Earth is seen as a tomb, to be either honoured or raided

morbiusgreen In reply to Neethis [2011-02-22 02:05:44 +0000 UTC]

isnt there some sort of radiation scrubber technology?

Neethis In reply to morbiusgreen [2011-02-22 12:56:53 +0000 UTC]

Nothing much more advanced than we have today, and nothing applicable on an entire planetary scale

a shame. I hate seeing earth destroyed beyond repair

What would have been Earth's population when the FTL exploded? Just wondering.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to Dooseldorf [2011-02-21 01:31:44 +0000 UTC]

Probably teetering around 10 billion Many millions had already been killed during the Earth-based parts of the Solar War, and a steady program of colonisation over a century had done it's part to bring that figure down from it's max of 14 billion in the mid 21st century...

Dooseldorf In reply to Neethis [2011-02-21 03:28:27 +0000 UTC]

Good lordy thats a lot of people. How many managed to escape the planet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to Dooseldorf [2011-02-21 09:40:33 +0000 UTC]

Possibly two billion were evacuated, the rest died pretty much every cultural and ethnic group was already represented somewhere in the colonies by this time, so there were no total losses, but it was still devestating.

Got to follow the muse whenever it grabs you, and whatever it tells you to do.

Does the Third (or Fourth) Empire control all of Mars or do they just have hegemony over the Planet?

And is earth really dead, or has nobody checked?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to lamnay [2011-02-21 01:26:57 +0000 UTC]

Technically it's now just called the Imperial Alliance There are still independants on Mars, notably the Kasei Federation and the Elysium Republic, and an ever rumbling Reddist movement. The port of Phobos also still maintains nominal independance

Earth is dead; atmosphere poisoned and three times thicker than ours, heavily radioactive, there's little down there but bacteria and bones. Salvage and scavenging operations are undetaken all the time, mostly under the auspices of the Conglomerate, but no survivors have been found for the past forty years

I've got a map of the outer system in the works too, showing the Imperial-controlled Jovian territory

So did humanity nuke the Earth in some war prior to this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to mdc01957 [2011-02-20 23:53:03 +0000 UTC]

50 years prior to this setting, at the end of the Solar War, the Earth was devestated when a prototype faster-than-light drive was activated in the south Pacific. It exploded, fractured the crust, and triggered massive earthquakes and tsunamis around the world. Radioactive debris also rained down over much of the planet, poisoning the air and water. A massive evacuation was led by the major powers of the day, but billions still died.

Where from? It's my own storyline, although I guess it's a fair cliche to destroy the Earth heh

Cowboy Bebop had a similar premise, minus the Solar War bit.

Having just read the wiki about the series, I'd like to point out that my explosion happens *on* Earth, and also it comes a lot later, after the solar system is already colonised lol
