I have a question, do you take requests? I've been looking for someone to make a solar system chart for me of a system I'm using in a story.

*evesdropping* what would it look like? Your solar system idea?

Well, I actually had someone help me out with the basics of it already, but I can show you what I've got done thus far:

This shows the tri-star layout for the solar system:Β sagegami.deviantart.com/journa…
This shows the planets/moons/etc:Β sagegami.deviantart.com/art/Co…

Thank you. ^^ It took me a while to track down an artist willing to do a tri-star solar system layout for me. Were you interested in helping, WW?

Oh yes, I might just use paint digitally but, I draw with pencils very well.
I am willing to sit in and listen to it, at least.

Huh? What do you mean sit in and listen to it? I don't understand... o.O?

Be involved in it. Like going to a seminear and making notes of what is going on, or just listening/reading the conversation without adding to it.

Okay.... I'm not sure what you're getting at as this is just a personal project (albeit a large one). I'm really only working on things in my spare time so nothing's really been posted. I've mainly just been looking for people willing to help me with character designs for my story/illustrations I'm planning or with spaceship/emblem designs or, finally, setting layouts. Right now the big ones I need are more solar system layouts (the more images I get the easier it'll be for me to work with) and a colony ship schematic/blueprint (so I can map out the locations of everything on the ship).

I mean I would like to see the idea before I agree on acting on it.

Well, basically, I'm doing a universal reboot for my characters and the way I'm having them transition from one story universe to another is by being stuck onboard a colony ship destined for another galaxy where we've only just discovered a solar system that appears too perfect to be true. This "perfect" system has been nicknamed Eden by those on the colony ship. Little do they know that the system was once inhabited by an advanced culture that had terraformed and colonized almost every planet in the system. However, the entire culture has disappeared and only their ruins remain; even the planets they terraformed have returned to their normal state.

There's going to be a LOT more added to it, but that's the jist of it right now. ^^ What do you think?

Well from what I see/read. It looks great. I have been making fictional maps and alternative histories [before I knew they existed. I think I called them "fictional histories"] so this space stuff, is right up my aisle/alley.

Alright, glad to hear that. ^^ I was hoping my idea wouldn't sound too much like Stargate: Universe or Star Trek. lol

is there a tutorial of making solar systems? Just thougth something like that could come in useful for beginners

How do people cope with radiation on Jupiter, and who controls what there?

Neethis In reply to lamnay [2011-02-21 13:00:17 +0000 UTC]

The radiation is only damaging out to Europa, and the effect is negliable beneath the surface of the ice and rock on Europa and Io respectively. Both of the inner Gallilean moons only have small populations too, with Io's being a mostly transient mining community, and Europa mainly hosting research facilities studying the native life in the salt-water ocean beneath the ice, and the effects of the Earth-life which has been released in former years

The Gallileans are held quite thoroughly by the Imperial Alliance, along with dozens of the minor moons, but there are dozens more which are controlled by independant or semi-autonomous factions, some of them loosely aligned with the Empire but just as many taking isolasionist standings. Rubble in particular, built on Iocaste, is known for it's lax laws and acceptance of all-comers, and has been a thorn in the Empire's side in their attempts to exert hegemony over all the Jovian satellites.

Sounds interesting, I look forward to hearing more about it.

IainFluff In reply to lamnay [2011-02-21 12:57:05 +0000 UTC]

Radiation from the Jovian Magnetosphere is only a serious problem on Europa and Io. On Ganymede just being inside is enough and Callisto has no problems, on Europa you can hide beneath a mile or so of ice.

Cool graphic anyway, though having a billion people out there only 200 years hence is pretty suprising!

Interesting, I had always thought it was dangerous to get anywhere near Jupiter.
