Previous: Next:Here's installment of the comic that started out as outtake reel for Requiem with a Birthday Cake and since devolved into any dopey FNAF gags that come into my head.
Well, the comic I did a few days ago doesn't seem too awful now that I'm off my cold meds. So, looks like I've got a little story arc going. What was that I said about Springaling being continuity-free? I'm such a stinkin' liar.
The "sound effects" in the final panel were a last-minute addition. I was about to post it, but when I gave it a final once-over I realized it looked like Springtrap was punching the Puppet in the head. That would not have been comedy. At least, not the kind of comedy I do. If you like that kind of comedy I don't want to know about it.

I haven't read this comic (or even been on DeviantArt) for years, but I started thinking about it recently and wanted to read through it again.
Mostly, what I've been thinking about was how much I missed the concept of Springtrap/Purple Guy and the Marionette having a sort of friendly rivalry with banter and whatnot. It used to be a popular interpretation and I always thought it was funny... but then FNaF 6 and 7 more or less debunked that idea. (As hard as she may try, three-year-olds just aren't very good at sass. Or at being the straight man.)
I think the final panel of this is the perfect example of what I've missed. I dunno, something about the juxtaposition of the "serial killer/victim" and "vitriolic best buds" dynamics is inordinately funny to me. Sproingtrep did a similar thing and I feel like there were others, too. It's an excellent relic of a time before FNaF got serious*.
Even putting aside the blessed imagery of Springtrap giving the Puppet a noogie, this page is a great showcase of what I find funny about these two. Even though it's played straight, it's inherently funny to see the Puppet call Springtrap something as mild as "jerk" in the first place, and the fact that it's still uncharacteristically hostile just kinda highlights how absurd the Puppet's chill is. Downplaying horrible things for the sake of comedy is extremely on brand for FNaF and I love when fan works do it.
That's my sleep-deprived 4am analysis anyway.
