Ok first of all, I’m not an expert on wig styling nor has anyone taught me about this. I actually just saw a reference picture of how the wig looks like when it was done (not during the process of styling) and I just tried it for myself.We will work of Terra Brandford’s wig. Because I needed to learn how other cosplayers got their ponytails that high haha! Naturally, many professionals would tell you to wear a short wig first and clip-on a ponytail extension.
That, of course, would look a lot better right? But only if you’re in a hurry or want to make it look neat. Plus, that’s two wigs, it could cost you. I chose to do it the natural way, because I assure you, it is POSSIBLE. So let’s start!

Yes it wold. Just do the same process, but gather or comb the first upper ponytail to the side rather than the back.

Hey, do you have any tips on hiding the back of your hairline? I have a blonde ponytail wig and REALLY dark hair and the hair at the name of neck shows... -_-

Hmm, that is still a prob for me honestly. Sometimes it depends on the quality of your wig. If it is thick enough, you'll be lucky to still hide it by constantly pulling down the back of the wig to cover it.. Or don't make your ponytail too high so it can cover enough areas.
otherwise, I could advice two things:
1) you can opt to use color hairspray. Get the same color as ur wig, spray your nape part just enough to cover it with color before putting on the wig. Be sure to cover ur neck with cloth or paper so you don't get stains.
2) same technique as the color hairspray, but you can also use color eye shadow / colored pastel based chalks to cover your hair. It should be enough to hide the dark natural hair color at least.
all methods are washable and temporary. I hope that helps~!

The longer the better actually. It helps keep the actual length you want to show.
Becaus if the wig is short, it will look shorter

How do you counter the weight of the ponytail so the wig won't slip backwards?

you can add hairpins in the front to keep the wig in place w/ your hair.
just make sure to hide it well so it doesn't show, esp on light colored wigs.
if that doesn't work, add more! Or don't place your 1st pony too high

Ha, those people on cosplay.com keep telling "but you can't pull a wig into a ponytail unless its a SPECIALTY wig! It CAN'T be done. You're SOL." and I'm all like: -_- You guys just don't do any research at all before prancing around like you know everything, do you...?

So if I wanted to tie a side ponytail all I would have to do instead is tie the hair elastic on the side, right?

I tried this and it does not last. It may be possible to put up this way, but it doesn't last more than one con. It gets horribly tangled and it falls after repeatedly taking the wig on and off.

If you fasten it with a strong, clear elastic band and double wrap it, it should stay ^_^

actually i encounter the same problem and realize that yes, this tut is only for a one-day wear thing unfortunately >.<
i end up having to re-style it the day before an event if i have to use the wig every time.
so the most part, it will do for now~ coz' i don't mind restyling it personally.
