Ok first of all, I’m not an expert on wig styling nor has anyone taught me about this. I actually just saw a reference picture of how the wig looks like when it was done (not during the process of styling) and I just tried it for myself.We will work of Terra Brandford’s wig. Because I needed to learn how other cosplayers got their ponytails that high haha! Naturally, many professionals would tell you to wear a short wig first and clip-on a ponytail extension.
That, of course, would look a lot better right? But only if you’re in a hurry or want to make it look neat. Plus, that’s two wigs, it could cost you. I chose to do it the natural way, because I assure you, it is POSSIBLE. So let’s start!

So the under part of the wig wont show if you just bring it back like this?

yes. probably not the wig, but your real hair. so best to cover it up with a good wigcap

I need to get the wig first, but I'll try this out on another one in the meantime. Out of interest, how high have you managed to get a ponytail? I'm aiming for a very high one for my character cosplay, as in, nearly to the top of the wig.

just high enough, at the back of my head 
if you wish for the super high pony, i suggest you get a really long wig for that. a thin one as much as possible, bcoz the regular wig can get really heavy if you style it in a super high pony. good luck then!

Is it possible to untie the ponytail?
Example, I tied my wig into a ponytail, and I'll like to untie it to make it straight long again~

do you mean you want to comb it straight after tying it in a pony? you can!
i usually would untie it again actually, recomb it, tie it w/ sanrio bands & finally tie it again w/ the actual character's tie.

I have a question for you. I've looked at both your high ponytail tutorials, but I'm still not sure how to go about creating a ponytail like the one Deidara, from Naruto, has. It's just part of his hair, with the rest down. Do you know how I could create one like his: [link] [link] without having to buy a clip-on?

hmm, you should have a high-quality wig to achieve this. bcoz what im going to suggest requires one. see this picture here: [link]
1) the wig is parted on the far right on Deidara's head. you can achieve this high-pony on the wig. but if ur wig is lowquality (not thick enough), the skeletal frame will be showing from the inside. so the thicker ur wig is, the better.
2) another option tells me his high-pony is actually a separate clip-on indeed. you can buy a long wig that's TWICE as long as the correct length.. then cut it in half while slowly saving the cut part and tying it together w/ a ribbon. then you can sew the ribbon on your wig, to create a fake pony.

it can work with both: either u tie the wig on the wig-stand or using somebody's head

here's my advice. since the 1st step is making a half-ponytail, i suggest you place the wig on the wig stand first (yours or a friend). you'll be able to see where you want ur high-pony to be from there.
then when you got that done, transfer the wig on an actual head (not ur own) and continue on with the rest..

Ahhh, I'm so happy I found this. I need to do a high ponytail for a cosplay, but do NOT want to do all that stubbing/wefting/foam core stuff. I suspected that, with how thick the wig I have is, that it could be done, but had a really hard time finding any helpful tutorials (until now, that is!). Thanks for posting this!
