Whomp King and Mario are longtime friends.Just a progress shot of my Whomp, essentially finished but I may still tweak it in some places. The size is mostly based on the Super Mario Galaxy 2 Whomps which were bigger than in past games, so I figured he'd make a decent king (the Whomp King in SMG2 is absolutely massive, there's no way he'd appear in that size in a 2D game). those two never got along because in the n64 the king guy try to squish mario.so they were enemies form the begging.

Looks like they popped right out of one of the 2.5D handheld Mario games (or a Super Mario RPG-type world). Love the style staying true to the games. Can't wait to see more!

Awesome pixel work! This honestly looks like it could have come out of one of the Mario RPG games for DS... or rather, because of the quality of the image, for 3DS. ;D The Whomp, especially in his face, looks completely accurate to the series! I haven't played Galaxy 2, but obviously, I've played enough Mario to be familiar with Whomps.

i remember back in the days, Mario 64, it'd get close enough to me and just before falling to the floor, i'd run back and then ground pound on it's back.
