Description
A Green Dragon receives tribute from the Aztecs in the Valley of Mexico. The Aztecs saw the Green Dragons as the offspring of their god, Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent and treated them as living gods, bringing them lavish tributes. Most of the time the tribute consisted of fruit and small jewelry and other ornaments for the dragon's hoard though in some special occasions they offered a human in a ritual sacrifice where the dragon would consume the heart. All this ended when the Spaniard CortΓ©s and his conquistadors showed up, their Christian ideology saw these dragons as evil servants of the devil and they eagerly killed any Green Dragon they came across, mostly to pillage it's hoard for gold and drag it all back to Spain. The last Green dragons were said to be slain at the Siege of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital but some might have survived and now wander the ruins of this civilization in the trackless jungles.

Gunpowder and overwhelming numbers, keep in mind that while the Spanish Conquistadors weren't many in number they allied themselves with the Aztec's political rivals and neighboring city-states who chafed under the yoke of the Aztecs, likeΒ Tlaxcaltec andΒ Texcoco. That and Green Dragons aren't as formidable as say, Reds or Blues.

They can bend down and lower their necks? Or just put it on themselves? They can reach.

Sounds like we now know what happened to the dragons once gunpowder became a weapon.

Not really,it was mostly due to the longtime rivals of the Aztecs, the Tlaxcalans, siding with the Spanish invaders.

I'm hoping the image is not of Tenochtitlan. Because I've actually been there. And I don't recall it being on high cliffs. I do recall it being on an island in the middle of a huge marsh land and lake, which was drained later to create Mexico City. (Which is why many buildings in Mexico City are slowly sinking into the groundβthey weren't all that great at draining said lake.)
I'll dig up my old images of Tenochtitlan and I can show them to you. I've been to Templo Mayor.

No, just some generic temples to look good, I didn't even know Tenochtitlan is now Mexico City, I learned that after I looked it up on Wikipedia. (I had to, I didn't knew how to spell "Tenochtitlan")But sure, I'd love to see the immages, I dig that ancient Aztec culture.

First and foremost... HOLY CRAP!!! This is so bad ass!!! Secondly, a little history (or at the very least, logical) the temple array in the BG... They could be sister temples (Like Sun/Moon, overworld/underworld...) Sorry just the history and architecture buff in me... And finally, This series always seems to fill the historical holes that mankind recognizes... Convient I think not!!!
But when it comes to a comment for the historical placement of the black dragon... Well with all of my historical ablites i can see them fitting in during on desperate point in time...

Your welcome, just one of those subjects that i know bits a pices...
But i was thinking a time that shares a common name: the black plague, or at least the one closest to the renaissance.

There's still a lot we don't know about them. They're said to have even outdone the Europeans in certain fields of advencement, unfortunatly, weaponry wasn't one of those fields.

Well I know some things about my shatterd culture that I could shed some light on for you.If you wish to hear.
Oh and also our weaponry wasn't the best to take out an entire army I agree, but half of it has gotta count for something.
