Description
I wish it were, though.I've been thinking, and sorry but the design of the USS Discovery that CBS released to the public isn't growing on me. It's not the design itself, I have no trouble with the delta shaped engineering hull, but the overall design of the Discovery makes it an eyesore. And the only other ship that I found to be an eyesore was the Enterprise-F for Star Trek Online.
That and I have been turned off by CBS going after fan made movies after spending so many years of leaving them alone.
But after doing some thinking, this is what I would pretty much do with the USS Discovery. Take the unnamed delta shaped ship from Star Trek: Enterprise, the one where they were flying in formation with the ISS Enterprise in the introduction to In A Mirror Darkly, and attached the Kelvin's saucer section with nacelle pylon and aft nacelle minus the engineering hull. And to maintain continuity, I used the Kelvin's nacelles even though the FWF-1 warp drive from the original Constitution class would work just as nicely.
Keeps it true to the design of the Discovery, the concept of the Enterprise for either the abandoned phase 2 project or TMP, but without looking a worthless piece of shit.
And as you can tell, it's just a quick throw together -- albeit if I can get my hands on the unnamed ship, that would be sweet.

The way they had the warp engines before with them being forward like on the first trailer, it didn't sit well with me. Moving them back was a vast improvement. But I still found the length of the nacelles a bit of an exaggeration.
And this one:
Gives the ship another sense of balance.

You must be kidding me, lol, I was literally today searching for reference material for the exact same idea just in a different time/context...and now I realize you had that idea 3 month earlier! Damn it!
I was looking at the Planet of the Titan inspired USS Edward Teller by Tony Cardona aka lordsarvain and I thought:
"Well this secondary hull looks like that ship from the Enterprise credits (I think it´s called SS Emmette/Emmette class),
just add a (pre-)NX saucer to it and use the original as the secondary hull and you have a great upgrade/refit for that class or a crossover to the NX-class!"
and I was just searching for some footage of the SS Emmette and the Discovery (to make sure it looks nothing like that ugly pos ) as I stumbled on your post.
I personally think the design only makes sense as a predecessor or contemporary of the NX-class or USS Franklin (if you consider that canon) and not so much for the Kelvin-era...
except maybe as a hommage to the Emmett-class refit, but otherwise GREAT IDEA!

Thanks. And yes I consider ships like the Kelvin and the Franklin as canon especially since the alternate reality began in 2233.04 after either ship was built.

Well, that was more a disclaimer to not spark any outrage since many fans seem to be quite salty when it comes to the new movies
and jump on anyone who has the boldness to even consider them as canon or Star Trek in general! I just don´t want to be dragged into those discussions.
