Description It saddens me very much how obscure this man has become. I'd hate for hipsters to jump all over his work and drive people away from it. Now that I think of it, he's probably not well known because his work is pretty darn old and he died in 1969. How many of us know about stuff concerning that era? Unfortunately, not a lot.

Jiri Trnka illustrated children's books, created stop motion films and made puppets. He was nicknamed the Walt Disney of eastern Europe at some point. Despite the moniker, some of his works are dark in terms of content and context.

And that concludes a short history lesson for the week. I make a terrible teacher. You can find more info on wikipedia and IMDB.

PS: Sorry for the bland appearance of the stamp, I might update it in the future.

AWW YEAH! I LOVE JIRI TRNKA!
My favorite film from him was the Emperor's Nightingale.

Yeah, Trnka was an amazing man. I used to love his stop motion films when I was a kid, though they used to kind of scare me.

He liked waltzing into the uncanny valley, I suppose.
