Well, let's put it this way...I REALLY don't want to go back and change it. I think I already merged the layers so it would take a lot to fix it and change it...but I'll keep it in mind for the future.

I'd say that basic weave materials held wrinkles like that the best, but jeans are definitely up there. The easiest place to find these more permanent wrinkles is in uniforms that have to be worn day after day, like in construction/welding clothing, oil rigs clothing, etc.

The book I got that particular part from (and the bend wrinkles) is called "Dynamic Drapery and Clothing" by Bruce Hogarth. The guy's incredible.1

That's understandable. Sounds like photoshop is complicated. But yeah, future reference and all.

I'll have to look up that book. Sounds like good stuff.

It's not that complicated...just time consuming. *sigh*

Wow this is a lot to take in for me since I never had any real art lessons before. Tho I do understand where this is coming from. I tend to study ppl on public transport (an no Im not perving >.> and see what they wear, how its worn and how the clothes fit.

This tut give me a much better idea how clothings should be creased. Whilst I have a long way to go I do appreciate you taking the time in making this!
It really helps!

That's how you should do it. Honestly, take in everything around you. That's how I learned a good deal what I know.

I'm always glad to help!

Grr, wrinkles are still throwing me off. XD I get how to do them, (kinda), but because they are for the most part random, it's hard to tell when they're going to be in what spots. XD It's the same reason I have trouble with hair, really.
(Fact: When I draw a night sky and try to put in stars, no matter how hard I try, my stars end up in nice, neat rows and columns. Me and random in drawings do not mesh. xD)

^^ anyway, this is a great tutorial. Yay, you managed to talk about how pants work without making me turn red. XD

Thanks, Obi!

Obi-quiet In reply to Daricio [2008-11-24 21:20:02 +0000 UTC]

Booyah! I was going for something nice and clean.

I'll tell you where I start every time? Armpits. Seriously. I just let my pencil decide from there, and then change it if I don't like it. Same with the pants. Bends are my favorite because they're predictable. You draw two or three little loops, and you're usually good. Start with that. The rest will fall into place.

thank you very much for part 2!! XD its really helpful!!

ichigo looks like he just got a haircut... XD
well basically folds appear on clothes based on the direction the cloth is pulled right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Obi-quiet In reply to uchiha-itachi111 [2008-11-24 21:22:41 +0000 UTC]

He probably did. LOL.

You get it. I didn't even say that, and you got it. That's usually when folds appear. There are exceptions (like the compression/displacement wrinkles), but otherwise, just think of folds like that, and you got it.

Thanks, Obi! This is very helpful! You're very good at choosing example images XD

By the way, can I ask you a favor? There's this friend of mine who lives in Japan, and recently she sent me a Bleach folder and a magazine as a gift. Well, since she's a big fan of Naruto, I decided to send her a handmade plushie of him in return. Problem is, my google-fu fails to get me any decent official art to work from! I'd rather stay away from fanart because I want to make sure I get all the details. (I know I miss them when I draw fanart.)

So, if you have any good front and back shots of him, do you think you can share them? It would make my friend happy, if anything else.

Ilovetodraw In reply to Obi-quiet [2008-11-25 03:34:02 +0000 UTC]

Yay, thanks! By the way, today in class I took the time to practice some of these (although I got really lazy with the right leg) and SOOOO many people were asking me "how'd you draw those wrinkles!?" to which I answered with a link to your account XD I don't think they'll be checking you out anytime soon though, because they really don't care about drawing anyway. But yeah.
