Description
A short while back I tried making a nebula in Photoshop but it didn't turn out. Instead of deleting the file I played with it a little and this is the resultPhotoshop CS2 as usual.

Lol I will ... Well I was thinking of revisting some of my deviations to find out what needs improvement and make new stuff with those changes (ie less playing). But until then, I will continue playing

^_^ It's official: you belong in my group! ^_^ We're the "G.E.E.K.S." ^_^ The meaning is only told to members, and we're working on putting together a site. ^_^ You'll have to wait a little while, though. When we get a settled base, I'll induct you. ^_^

an otaku is anyone with an obsession esp. with hentai, anime and manga alike.
^_~ Right now, I'm trying to find a decent song for the homepage (and learn to control the volume in the background. Still learning HTML, but I'm getting better at an exponential rate. ^_^)

I definately have an obsession, just not with those things (not that they're bad though ).
Are you trying to make the volume user-controlled you mean? That's one thing I don't know about HTML... I know a decent amount of HTML and CSS but I have a hard time letting myself do things when I can't do it all. So, not being able to make my own graphics for a website, and not having the funds to pay for a site, I haven't made one yet.
That'll have to be another project somewhere down the line.

Admit it: you're otaku. Most otaku are like me: perverts with mad computer skills and a high-speed connection to the world. ^_~ Most aren't as fit and life-loving as me, though. ^_^ I'm an individualist.

I'm a pervert but I futilely try to ween myself off things like that... I'm made marginal progress on that front lol.
I don't have "mad computer skills", unless compared to my *students* . Just a tad above average... but then again I usually end up comparing myself to my superiors (bad habbit).
Heh, your right about the fit part. I'm inside way too much! I'm only outside when I'm walking to and from college, and to and from the car.... But I do have a high metabolism.

O_o Your skills with photoshop are much greater than mine ever were. You obviously have some skill. It's just that my areas of expertise don't include digital artwork. (Unless you include coding and HTML, in which case I'm the best I've met so far with the exception of one of my friends.)
Here's a saying for you to remember: once a pervert, always a pervert. It's not just a phase, it's a lifestyle and a mindset. I have the mindset, but I've converted out of the lifestyle. My style is gaming.

ogiGamedev In reply to theravinggamer [2006-05-09 14:29:58 +0000 UTC]
Hehe, nice saying . As far as digital art, everything I've done so far is either simple geometry vector stuff in Flash or me playing with filters and blending layers in Photoshop.... nothing anyone else couldn't do within a weeks time. I have no skill in Photoshop but I do have familiarity with it now... unless that's the same thing
. Either way, I don't really chalk it up as skill until I can do the more traditional stuff, until then it's little more than playing with menus.
I can't wait until I learn to draw and paint! Applying those to Photoshop will help me out a ton!... Then I just need to get decent at writing and web design .

I could probably get a decent job at web design out of high school, myself. I'm still trying to learn Java, but my dad won't let me download the required programs to help me with that. He won't give me the admin password. ~_~ Quite depressing, but I swear he's becoming more paranoid than I am. ^_~

My programming teacher in high school suggested a place for me to go afterwards, so I'm guessing she thought I could have gotten a decent job right out of high school too... sadly she was listing off a series of roads to a destination and I suck at memorizing roads, and still don't drive, so I expected my mom to be paying attention.... she wasn't. Oh well, I've come to realize that I don't think I would want to be doing programming for a living, I need to visually see what's going on every step of the way... not just when the program hits it's milestones.

If you know how to read program code, then you can piece it together internally, even as you work on it. ^_^ Why do you think I like HTML so much? ^_~

Yeah but I'm increadibly visual. While I'm interested in learning programming (and have about 4 years under my belt), I much prefer to see things visually at an earlier stage than programming allows. HTML is the nice exception, which is why I'm still interested in doing web design .

4 years of classes I mean. I was playing with QBasic and Basic back in middle school and early high school, before taking classes.

~_~ I need to pick up the ball, then. I've only got limited (as in less than a year) experience with Java and HTML. Java isn't that hard, though. All of the concepts are simple to understand. The only downside is that I can't remember exactly how to code in it all the time.
Any chance of you teaching me some Basic? (Or, better yet, Hex? )
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ogiGamedev In reply to theravinggamer [2006-05-10 16:17:31 +0000 UTC]
I would recommend learning Visual Basic instead of Basic, if that's the route you want to go. Visual Basic is often used in prototyping and doesn't have some of the commands Basic does that are "unique" to that language. I put it in quotes because I don't know that other languages don't have those commands, just that the ones I've used don't recommend them... so getting used to Basic might cause bad programming habits to develop.
HTML is pretty easy though, it's the cosmetic part that takes a little more work. Having the graphics and setting up the CSS is where HTML really shines. I lack the graphics and thus lack the experience one would gain from the code used to display them... My web design classes were pathetic, nothing but simple web pages that I could probably teach my little brother to make... and he doesn't use his computer for anything other than games and word processing!
By teaching you hex do you mean the number system or something else?
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F
That's the Hex number system for one digit, do the same for the remaining digits and you can reach FF = 255. Basically like binary, not too hard once you get the hang of it.

I mean the hex programming language. It's an ancient programming language (ancient=1992), it's root to a lot of others, and one that can be SUPER efficient when used correctly.

I figured. O_O I know only one person who knows any hex, and base-level stuff at that. He's also a national mod for a global forum (one of three for the USA).
Don't worry about it. If I find anything on it, I'll let you know. If not, then study what you will. (I'm working on the "Root Language" theory right now (Learn a root language, be semi-proficient with all derivitives of that language right off)).

I'm moving away from programming and towards writing and art, while still following C/C++ where it leads. I'm not counting HTML and CSS when I say that, I consider those two to be a unique type of programming, one which I hope to put to use eventually.
No need to hire others for work I can do myself... at least until I need to upgrade beyond my own abilities, in which case hiring others would make sence. I like to be able to do at least the basics of most areas of game design and development, my focus will remain in the design areas though.

O_o You're going to be fucked up the ass if you don't know what you're doing. Trust me on that. I know someone else who tried to make a basic ant colony simulator, and he couldn't get the basic AI to quit fucking around. It's a helluva lot harder than one would think.
And if you ever want something, I'd be willing to give you a shard of my time. You only need ask. (I also have templates made up for any HTML projects I come across. ^_^ They're simple, but they worked. ^_^ I used them in four school projects this semester alone. ^_^)

Being fucked up the ass is one of many things I worry about . I don't intend to do try and do everything myself, just the simpler things that I'm sure I can do. Prototyping some things would make sence for me to do because it would be easier to explain what I want by showing instead of telling. After that the more knowledgable people can take over and re-create what I've done only much better. Then it would be easier to make sure things turn out closer to how I want them to, less bad surprises. But still, programming is a development skill so I'll only worry about doing that enough to be able to communicate efficiently with the programming team.
Design is more about conceptualizing and explaining those concepts to the team, in the form of art or writing mostly. It's also about doing a lot of paperwork and collecting data (design document). Basically it's the stuff that needs to be done before programming even starts, but also continues after the game has launched... even if there is no more coding to be done.
Thanks for the offer, I'm still working on what I need help with and how best to use that help... without making input useless soon after it's given. I have a chaotic mind and I've always tried countering that but now I think I'll try adapting to what I naturally do, instead of trying to change how I think.... or something like that.

Good plan, but I wouldn't advise you to be the one to handle all of the paperwork. I've noticed a few typos over the course of our chats.

I don't know, I guess it just took that long for my spelling to get bad enough to notice . I'm sure it started after they stopped having spelling as a major part of the classes... I was pretty good when it was, even did decent in spelling bees (not first place though, but very close).
