Description

So here's a gift for *syaming-li ! I want to stress though that this was not something I felt I had to do - the subscription was very well-received, but honestly, I was just sketching fancharacters and this sketch came out pretty nicely so I decided to finish it up! Boy, did it take a while.

So, in one way, this is a 'thank you' to Dean and his awesomeness in buying me a subscription, in another a 'thank you' for the inspiration and drive he and his artwork have given me and in one last way, just a random gift.

In terms of the design, I know a few details are off. The shoes, for instance and I don't think I got the quills quite right but as I said, it really was just one of those spontaneous things. I began colouring and it just started to look really good (to me, anyway, hah ).

I am a tad worried that this ruins the value of the subscription as a 'present', somewhat, but I just couldn't not complete this karmic re-balancing.

Well I was about to say you didn't have to do this at all! But as long as it was on a whim, I'll totally take it!

The quills and things are fine! (Well hey, a little artistic licence on them won't totally go amiss!) Actually I love the style in general. He's pretty cute and pretty much reminds me of a plushie at present! The colouring job is also pretty cool, too! Seriously, thank you so much. :3

Actually, on the plushie thing, is it weird that I can totally see where you're coming from there? Like, this wouldn't look much worse if I added a claw picking him up by his head, or something!

Well, while I may not have put a lot of thought into the pose originally, I feel this helped me develop proportions a little better and keep a head the right shape and size regardless of the intensity of the quills around it. So Tempest was actually a good choice in that regard, I think!

No problem dude, I had a lot of fun with it.

This turned out really good! While the pose honestly leaves much to be desired, the proportions and structure of the lines are really accurate to the whole modern Sonic style. It stands out to me that it doesn't look thin, squashed, or awkward in any way that immediately catches my eye--it's completely on-model. That's pretty impressive, especially for traditional art!

Nice work, dude. I'm sure he'll like it.

Cheers for the input Tweaker! I'm actually working on poses with my sketchbook right now so I'll be hopefully posting more dynamic artwork in the future - this was more of a profile picture-style deviation from the beginning though but I'm painfully aware of my lack of flair when it comes to posing characters. It is definitely top of my priority list and the more I hear it, the more it's inspiring me to do better in this regard so thanks.

The one element of my art I tried to improve on in this piece was actually performing good lighting using pencils, similar to the light strokes on SA-styled artwork - hope I got this down though I know I can definitely use some work there, too.

Again, thanks for the input, it's always appreciated.

The pencil work is intense... it looks, dare I say it, almost juicy!
Another fine job Mister <3
