Description
Sorry this took so long! I was experimenting with a couple of different things here.No I didn't go on a civ 5 binge I have no idea what you're talking about.
This was such a fantastic moment not only in the episode, but the series as a whole. I wanted to try and show just exactly what RD was doing. This was something she wanted not just for the time in which we've shared her adventures, but for her entire life. Something she seemingly wanted more than anything else. Something she would sacrifice blood, sweat, and tears to. Her dream above all others.
And in an instant, she gave it all away. Her life's dream gone.
Because she realized in that moment there are more important things in life than any one persons aspirations.
Damn good job Rainbow Dash. A lesser individual wouldn't have done what you did in that moment.

And she should. The Wonderbolts are some of the most unkind ponies out there. They'd likely leave RD for dead in a ditch just to win a race.

Definitely one of my favourite moments in animation. It was justΒ so... uggh, I can't describe itΒ ;A; Remind me why some bronies think Rainbow shouldn't be the element of loyalty again? Because that moment singlehandedly proved she was, andΒ you've expressed it wonderfully here~

True power is not how strong you are. True power is the complete control over your strength. Your ability to conquer it, kill off any temptation to abuse it, and use it as it was truly supposed to be used.Β
Silver out!Β

This is why when other people on the internet say she's nothing but an arrogant, insensitive show-off, it breaks my heart. Yeah, sometimes she can be all that. But hey, everypony has flaws. But what she did at this moment made me gasp and smile and shed tears almost. Oh gosh I lost it. Her loyalty really shows here because like you said, she realized there are more important things in life than those aspirations. She didn't like what she had to go through to be a Wonderbolt, and gave it all up.
Gosh, Rainbow Dash. You are the best pony ever. If a person ever says anything negative about you, I will laugh in their faces until my ribs hurt.

I gotta say, this is one of my favorite pieces of art that I've ever seen from the fandom. You convey the weight of this moment so well, and you can really feel the strength of Rainbow Dash's character.

That must have been really hard for Rainbow Dash to do: giving up her dream like that for the safety of not just her friends but other fellow ponies as well. Β She may be brash, pushy, arrogant, and a bit of a show-off but she's no bully, at least she tries to make amends unlike Lightning Dust. Β
Lightning Dust didn't seem to care what she did nor acknowledge the fact that her actions had consequences to herself and others or just because was better didn't she could put others down so long as she's the best. Β She also put pressure on Rainbow Dash saying if she didn't go with the flow then she wasn't fit to be a Wonderbolt, like what Rainbow Dash told Lightning Dust about cutting the other Pegasi off during the exercise she just waved it, (which I think is a bunch a Bullsh*t, I mean someone could get hurt. Β Don't know why the Wonderbolts didn't put into consideration about safety).
I swear, at the end of that episode when Lightning Dust went on about how cool their stunt was at the end her completely disregard of how it almost hurt Rainbow Dash's friends I wanted to put myself in the show, stand right in front Lightning Dust and PUNCH her so hard. Β She clearly didn't care about her actions and if someone had been killed in that accident she would've been arrested but getting kicked out of the academy is punishment enough.
I'm glad Rainbow Dash got through to Spitfire, she needed to see that sometimes being the best shouldn't come at a price. Β
Way to go Rainbow, you've given me another reason as to why your my favorite pony, you're loyal as you are caring. Β I know you will make a great Wonderbolt.

I'd say this is the moment that pretty much cemented her role as the Element of Loyalty; choosing the safety of her friends and the ponies aound her over her own life-long goals.
Definitely my favorite Rainbow Dash episode.

"No disrespect, ma'am, but there's a big difference between pushing yourself as hard as you can and just being reckless. And if being reckless is what gets rewarded around here, if that's what it means to be a Wonderbolt, then I don't want any part of it"
So much liquid pride was shed in this moment, given that joining the Wonderbolts was her most cherished dream, to give that up for a higher principle says so much of how Rainbow Dash has grown out of her hotshot arrogance.
And now she is one step closer to her dream.

Well, in this episode we can see that Lighting Dust is like RainbowDash before she meet Twilight and rest of the team, Lighting Dust was not evil but just very arrogant and reckless, not care for others safely to accomplish her goal, RainbowDash learned a lot during the series and she showed it in a very big way.
By the way, do Lighting Dust is female or male, I mean, there is already a lot of female characters and Lightig Dust voice sounds a bit male, so I just do not know.
