Description Sorry this took so long! I was experimenting with a couple of different things here.
No I didn't go on a civ 5 binge I have no idea what you're talking about.

This was such a fantastic moment not only in the episode, but the series as a whole. I wanted to try and show just exactly what RD was doing. This was something she wanted not just for the time in which we've shared her adventures, but for her entire life. Something she seemingly wanted more than anything else. Something she would sacrifice blood, sweat, and tears to. Her dream above all others.

And in an instant, she gave it all away. Her life's dream gone.

Because she realized in that moment there are more important things in life than any one persons aspirations.

Damn good job Rainbow Dash. A lesser individual wouldn't have done what you did in that moment.

As someone who has played with Rainbow Dash's character in an alt ending to My Little Dashie #shamelessplug (never made changes to her, necessarily, but it was thought about profusely) and has dared to tote around a ...tote... at a very non-brony highschool because I love her as a character so much, I feel those feels like few others.

This scene is why I put Wonderbolts Academy at the top of my favourites list for season 3 episodes... Well, tied-for-first with Sleepless in Ponyville.

Fantastic job reflecting that scene.

You're right, honesty doesn't equal trolling, but a blunt and explanations opinion on a topic that someone spent much time does.

I was leaving my opinion that it's the worst episode. Not everything has to be an hour long debate. I don't care nearly enough to lay down my points.

this represents how in a single moment a lifetime of planning can mean nothing, when you realize that you lived for the wrong reasons, to me at least.

this is a very awesome picture, and makes me respect the rainbow maned pony all the more.

I'm probably one of the few people you'll find who actually bothers to call Dash out on her typical immaturity for doing this so hastily.

ParadigmPizza In reply to MillennialDan [2013-01-15 02:14:10 +0000 UTC]

Hasty? Yes, her decision might of been a little hasty. But immature? Far from it. There's good quote from a certain wizard that applies very well here.

"We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy" -Albus Dumbledore

MillennialDan In reply to ParadigmPizza [2013-01-15 02:20:01 +0000 UTC]

I think it was, primarily because of the way she handled it. She was too condemning of her partner for something she had herself agreed to do, and she failed to fully talk things out with Spitfire. She just left in a huff. Spitfire even pointed that out herself.

A mature person would have communicated better all around. I don't let the others off the hook for their part in the whole debacle, but Dash deserves a share of blame I rarely see anyone assigning to her.

ParadigmPizza In reply to MillennialDan [2013-01-15 03:44:48 +0000 UTC]

Well keep in mind that she only ended up going through with it because of what spitfire said to her about Lightning Dust wanting to push herself. I also belive that Dash was perfectly in the right for what she said to her. Keep in mind that not only was it her idea, but she sat back and did nothing while five ponies feel potentially to their deaths. And if that wasn't enough she played the whole thing off like it was no big deal, and that the only thing that mattered is that it looked cool.

She also left in a huff because she was furious, and justifiably so in my opinion. Not only at Lightning Dust and the academy, but at herself for putting the lives of her friends in danger. Instead of taking it out solely on Lightning, she did the right thing and expressed her utter disgust with what the academy seemingly supported, and that she didn't want any part of it.

I agree with you that Dash deserves a little blame for what happened, but not as much as you think she does.

dashes talk to spitfire was completley justifyed! rainbow was immature coming to spitfire about the lead pony bit yes. however spitfire should have confronted how lighting dust treated her partner during the flag incident, as a leader it's expected she well listen to the ponies she commands and consider there input, a leader also takes into account the injured, when rainbow clipped her wing lighting dust didn't even stop to ask if she was okay. spitfire as a CO should have adressed the problems there. she let it get to where it got to, and she put off the impression on dash that it was okay. i believe spitfire and lighting dust where to blame in this instance.

D; I nearly cried at that scene. Knowing that she wanted to be a Wonderbolt was her dream but seeing how much of a jerk Lightning Dust was and the Wonderbolts supposedly supporting that made RD give it up knowing what LD did was harming others. That's what really appreciate RD's character more. That episode and Sleepless in Ponyville being my second favorite moment for her too.

Definitely the strongest moment in Wonderbolt Academy.

All her life, Rainbow Dash dreamed of joining the ranks of the Wonderbolts, ever since she was a filly. And she trained day in and day out in the hopes of that magical moment. But if the Wonderbolts are going to tolerate the kind of reckless MO that Lightning Dust demonstrated...then it's not worth risking.

It took this much to get Spitfire to remember the true spirit of the Wonderbolts - the kind of spirit that Dashie displayed.

It's easy, sitting in the office on Cloud Nine, to get caught up in the day-to-day of merely tolerating pathetic "recruits" like Libmanpone and Roid Rage in the day camp they call an "academy".
It's easy to be impressed by ponies who are actual athletes, decent recruit material.
It's easy to dismiss a bit of recklessness, especially when it sets Academy records.
It's easy to sit in the office and do paperwork during a drill that should take a couple of hours.

It's hard to put on a professional face, confirm Rainbow's story with her sergeants, and decide on disciplinary action for the pony who endangered the lives of Equestria's secret weapon - a weapon she, as Captain of the Wonderbolts, has most certainly been briefed on by Their Majesties.

i think the episode this was obviously spitfires first time heading the academy, well she did her best her mistakes and attitude was far from what is to be expected by a CO. had a older wonderbolt been there they probably would have pointed out to her that lighting dust had a problem, back at the flag excersize and it could have been delt with without incident.
