Description
This tutorial explains how a buyer and an artist can set up payment using deviantART's Commission Widget. Through this process, the artist receives CASH through PayPal. The artist DOES NOT receive any points. There is a two week delay between when the buyer sends payment and when the artist receives the funds through PayPal.
If you see any typos, please let me know
As you can see, this process is needlessly complicated. To see a proposal for a far simpler system, refer to:

but if you set up a commission for points how do you get the points after the person buys the thing????

parallellogic In reply to Kaylors [2016-01-27 01:33:40 +0000 UTC]
After two weeks you will be able to withdraw points using the Earnings page
www.deviantart.com/account/ear…
When using the Commission widget DA takes 20% of the funds the commissioner payed. For that reason, users who wish to transfer points between one another prefer to use the Donation widget. Artists get 100% of the funds and there is no delay.

Perhaps try again later. If you still the same error message, report it to the help desk. You shouldn't see that error for any length of time.

how do i get rid of old commision choices i made in the widget? so i can re-edit it

Go to your profile page, scroll down to the commission widget, select the pencil icon in the top right of the widget. You should see a summary of your current commission options appear. From there you should be able to select the options to remove (or edit) by selecting the 'x' icon (or the 'edit' button).

How are you supposed to give someone their art without getting your points voided? I uploaded some art for someone in my gallery and when the 14 days ended, I got a note from DA saying my points were voided because I didn't give them the art in return for the points when I did give them the art.
So yeah, how do you "give" someone their art using the commission widget?

parallellogic In reply to Devils-Device [2016-01-11 06:27:17 +0000 UTC]
It is not possible to "give art" through the commission widget. I would recommend you file a ticket with the help desk and show them the same link you gave to the buyer, and possible the correspondence between you and the buyer (notes, comments, etc). Perhaps the buyer had some misconceptions about your work flow.
I'm surprised they're holding you to a 14-day limit to produce the artwork. Many artists I commission don't start the process until after those 14 days are up (and the money confirmed in their PayPal account).

I sent them the link saved to my computer of the artwork to DA after they noted so they'd have proof. I haven't gotten a reply and I haven't gotten my points back. I also don't use PayPal, I just use the points. I just thought there was some specific way to do it since my points were voided. Other artists post their art to their gallery and they're fine, but I just don't see how mine didn't go through and that I'm supposedly just doing it for the points and not actually doing the artwork.

~the link saved to my computer of the artwork
What do you mean "saved to your computer"? You mean you sent a link that started with C:/ ? Did you upload your work to an image host?

I make my art ok MediBang Paint Pro. Therefore, I have to save it to my computer to upload the image to my gallery. I sent them the .png image that's on my computer. That's what I mean.

How do you add examples to the widget ;v;?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to Kiko-Kat [2016-01-11 06:20:59 +0000 UTC]
Once the widget is placed on your profile page, refresh the page. Scroll down to the widget and select the pencil icon at the top right. From there either add a new commission offer or edit an existing one. You should see a section to add example artwork when editing your commission offer.

Soo when the buyer clicks that button and gives the points over, there is apparently 2 weeks for the "earnings" to become actual $$$. Do I have to hurry up and draw the commission before the 2 weeks are over?
I usually take a little long even though I finish my work eventually, but I don't want DA to punish me for "being fake" if I don't make the art in time T^T

parallellogic In reply to Serpenfire [2016-01-01 00:31:46 +0000 UTC]
I've had several commissions take far longer than the two week transaction time and some artists don't even start a commission until they have cash "in their hand". The two weeks is just DA's processing/hold time, not a requirement on the artist.

I have a question, if someone pays me through the commissions widget and I accept, am I supposed to receive payment right then, or do I have to do something first? I accepted and finished the commission, but I haven't received my payment

Quick Question, and I am asking since you seem really on the ball when it comes to this widget stuff. I have been trying to find that Commissions Shop page for nearly an hour with no luck. Like the thing that appears here: dacommissions.com/
I used to use that page a lot and now I can't seem to find it at all. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hi!
Can I make ask you a thing?
I'm trying to pay a friend of mine using the commission tutorial but it says i can't because some of my settings aren't saved due to a connection problem. What can I do?

parallellogic In reply to Boreal-Fire-I [2015-11-07 02:50:57 +0000 UTC]
Connection problems tend to be random events that go away after a few minutes. I'd recommend waiting a little while and then trying again. If the issue persists, contact the help desk

parallellogic In reply to KarinaDRZ [2015-11-07 03:00:16 +0000 UTC]
There is no PayPal widget. There is a Commission widget you can add to your profile page. You access your PayPal earnings from this widget as described in the tutorial above.
When you create a new commission in the widget, there is a section at the top for posting art from your gallery.

So... when you use the donation vidget you give and recieve only points, but when you use the commission vidget you pay with point, but artists recieve money they can withdraw, right?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to Underpable [2015-10-22 14:38:38 +0000 UTC]
Correct, the Donation Widget is strictly for transferring points but the Commission Widget is for transforming points into cash. Using the Commission Widget, the artist will receive cash via PayPal.
