Thanks. I wrote with this with a considerable amount of perspective. After troubleshooting groups though alpha development, I was readily aware what the common issues would be, and thus I tried to address the most common problems above.

How do you tag groups in your say, signature?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to MidnasFire500 [2011-08-30 22:54:37 +0000 UTC]

To display groups in your signature. you'll want to use the :dev: tag, in much the same was as you would to tag a user.

type :devmlp-fim: and you get #MLP-FiM

The :icon: tag does not work in signatures, unfortunately.

How do you know which group you are in?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to woodenpen [2011-08-29 13:05:02 +0000 UTC]

Append "mygroups" to the end of any user's userpage URL and you'll see what groups they are in

[link]

There is also a group's widget you can add to your profile page to display them.

Yuki119 In reply to ??? [2011-07-14 04:22:22 +0000 UTC]

I just started a new group and I can't get the Contribute art button to show up for the members--I've followed you tutorial where it says to change "On Gallery, Members:" from "Are Not Allowed" to "Subject to Vote"--The 'On Gallery, Members:' is not there O.O Can you help?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to Yuki119 [2011-07-14 05:46:18 +0000 UTC]

Are you certain you selected "Members" from the left column in the "Manage Members" section? Once you've selected that section, the Gallery drop down should be about half-way down the list on the right (you will likely need to scroll down).

Livadialilacs In reply to ??? [2011-06-09 00:08:26 +0000 UTC]

I was able to reduce a GIF to about less than 15kb....but why can't the site accept animations or "re-sizing" it for a group profile avatar?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to Livadialilacs [2011-06-09 03:33:12 +0000 UTC]

You can ask around, someone can probably resize your animation for you to be the proper size. The API they're working with likely only handles still images, it's possible it might be a browser limitation in that resizing animations hasn't been implemented as a web standard, I wouldn't know, I'm not that close to the web development community.

A lot of the members of #Free-dAvatars have the tools for doing what you're after. I can resize it as well if you have it hosted somewhere.

How do you type the groups name in a link like that? like this: `parallellogic but with a group? Thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to Syra-Syra [2010-11-27 17:38:47 +0000 UTC]

Since users can't have the same names as groups (groups are just ultra-modified user accounts), you can use the same :dev: system for groups and the system automatically recognizes the name as a group rather than a user and places the appropriate symbol in front, kind of how it recognizes a non-premium member from a subscribed user: there's no allowed overlap, so the same system can be used for both. :devcartoon-obsessions: --> #Cartoon-Obsessions

Does that change also apply to the description in the group directory?
(eventually with a certain time passing before updating)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to UltraTheHedgetoaster [2011-03-05 00:29:57 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it should. I haven't strictly verified that, but I'm fairly certain they only have one instance of the group description.

UltraTheHedgetoaster In reply to parallellogic [2011-03-05 17:14:29 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I just tested it with a group I'm Co-Founder in, and after about 8 hours (or less) the update was applied.

I need help.
I tried to make a group just now but it say wait to be declined or accepted.
How does that work, or when should I exspect something?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to BlackWolf122 [2010-09-20 03:01:20 +0000 UTC]

That's part of the normal procedure, you may have to wait a day or two before it's created . Supposedly there's a staff member who looks over all new group accounts to make sure they're legit (not a hate group) before it's approved, and so that takes some time.

Quick question about groups:

Do groups have a donate points widget?
Cause I have looked and can't find one and read on comments but I just wanted to be sure.
Thanks x

parallellogic In reply to Gilko [2010-09-14 22:23:16 +0000 UTC]

~Do groups have a donate points widget?
They do not. It was rumored to have completed development and only needed legal approval, but it seems that only the user version of the donate widget has appeared, so I surmise they were referring to a user-based one and not a group-based, and that there aren't any plans to release a group-based one.

Is it possible to gather points on a user account using the donate widget then buy the subscription for the group using those points to make it into a supergroup?

Thanks xx
