Description I was out up Moor the other day, well windy it was but made a right proper job i did....

Anyway..I thought id have a crack at photographing the moor on the way back from Plymouth one evening. So i went to one of the most well known places on Bodmin moor, 'Cheesewiring' its got its name from how it looks basically, this is all natural its generated its strange formation from centurys of weather errosion.

I think i added to the feel of the rocks as i went up on an extremly windy and bitter evening, i had real trouble shooting because of the wind and for the majority of the shoots i had to lean on my tripod to keep it still and my tripod isnt a cheap one either but the wind did settle up a bit for this shot...

Image: Taken and Processed RAW, developed in PS

Location: Cheesewiring, Nr Minions, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall [link]

Camera Info: Nikon D70 | Nikkor 18-70mm DX ED | focal length 18mm | ISO200 | f/22 | 0.6 secs | Hoya Polarizer + Cokin P121 ND Grad + Cokin P120 ND Grad

Excellent shot. Great lighting, cloud and foreground texture. You have managed to capture the essence of what the Moor is all about.

This is beautiful. I love the sky, and the contrasts of the rocks against it. Also, the title suits perfectly!
I love the moor- I'm from Plymouth, so visit it often....was up there just a few hours ago =]

This is nice mate...I love the offset composition and I'm pretty impressed that with all that ND grad laid across the horizon, you can still see detail in the top rock (it's not darkened too much by the grad) and the filtration is almost invisible.

Lovely work

PastyGuy In reply to AndyMumford [2007-07-16 00:36:55 +0000 UTC]

thanks, it helps with having the 2 filters, darker grad on top and the lighter one on the bottom, helps the graduation

You got a really nice tone there, I think the rocks should be less of the shot though, they are a little 'in your face' for me. But then again if that's the subject you wanted it's ok!

yea il admit its mainly a commercial shot in a way kind of advertising this tourist attraction, im not a fan of commercial photography but you have to experiment sometimes

Nice shot I think you have done well here in less than ideal shooting conditions. I can see a halo round that rock though

I am quite critical as you have noticed! But I have really enjoyed some of your shots and not been able to offer any criticism. It's meant in a contructive wway though, your photography is obviously very good or I wouldnt be watching you!

nice, but I think, that rocks are little too expected. Antway, I wouldn't take a picture like that, so It's not for me to judge

maybe you van write a small tutorial, how yo uedit your images, why you use RAW and son on - im'very interested

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PastyGuy In reply to V-h-S [2007-07-12 17:33:12 +0000 UTC]

well the reason for the rocks is bacause why i walked up there and i hadnt been there before..

I use RAW really for the ability to carry camera data and better quality over the image, plus it cuts down on PS time which im not a fan of. in the way of editing, not much was done, the usual; curves, tones. i did expose the rock formation a bit more to make it stand out a bit more, but thats it. oh and sharpening

that is definitely one of my all time favourite comments, I visit this shot occasionally just to enjoy the genius of it!

Anyway, is his the only worthwhile tor on Bodmin moor? there seem to be a few shots of it...
