Description

As its name implies, the Tempest Class strike frigate is designed to engage enemies at close-quarters distances. As a result, the Tempest Class trades long-range firepower for heavy, short-range broadsides designed to devastate enemies and carries assault boats and troops for boarding missions.

Since all those features require space, it is larger than the more common Sword class Frigate and one of the largest frigates in service with the Imperial Armada. Compared to Sword Class Frigates, they are less maneuverable, and they do not match their turret rating or their detection systems. However, they benefit from a stronger hull and armor.

The Tempest Class strike frigates are also found in the fleets of the Legiones Astartes. Because of the mobile nature of the Legions, these Tempest are equipped with two interconnected Gellar Fields. Should one fail, the other will continue to protect the ship from the tides of pure cannot-be of the Warp. Many of these frigates have been up-gunned and are heavily automated.

Shown here are the Tempest Class strike frigates of the 10th Destroyer Division, 11th Legion. From top to bottom, Yomogi (蓬), Ashi(葦), Tsuta (蔦), and Sumire (菫).
