Description A very thirsty desert landscape finally gets a chance to quench it's thirst thanks to the heavy rains of the monsoons. This isolated shower brought crackling thunder and bolts of lightning just moments after this photograph.

That is so cool! I really wish I could go back.......there was this sense of peace when I looked at the mountains, the sunsets, the natural beauty of AZ.
Thanks again Peter!

Thank you! Arizona holds plenty of magic and peace when you look for it. Definitely one of the most beautiful places and I am fortunate to call it home.

That's a good way of putting it! I did feel that magic & peace! I didn't want
to leave it either but had no choice. I was a single Mom of twin girls (born there)
& we left when they were too young to remember it. I'd love to take them back there someday so they could see the beauty I saw.

I'm sure a lot has changed since then. I've lived here for 11 years and have seen an unfortunate amount of new developments clinging to the foothills of the surrounding mountains.Β

Wonderful subtle highlights in the foreground! This partly diffused yet defining light created perfect separation between your foreground and background. The drama of the approaching storm is well captured as well. Very nice!

You're gonna have to get a lightning trigger I'm glad the desert got to quench its thirst and I'm glad you got to capture it

I thought about getting one, but I feel like I would be cheating and I wouldn't get that same feel of being lucky. One of these days I'm bound to capture some incredible lightning storms. Just hope I'm kept safe hah.

I understand how you feel. I catch mine through long exposure and kinda feel the same, but not so much Chances are you'd be safe but who really knows where it's going to strike It's sure a thrill when one bombs close to you though!

This isolated shower was only about five miles away and bolts were coming out of the sky from it. I've heard lightning can strike anywhere up to 40 miles from a super cell. I had a few close encounters as the storm moved right above me (when I shot the superstition storm image).

You heard right...it's where the term 'bolt from the blue' comes from. Being right below something like this is a thrill and a half! Gets the heart racing and makes you glad to be alive, doesn't it? It's mesmerizing and it makes me want to capture the bolts in a great composition like the one you have here. Maybe another time and I'm hoping you get that shot

It sure is a thrill, and definitely get's your heart racing. I was praying out loud to myself that I wouldn't be struck. I'm determined to capture some epic monsoon images over the summer. So maybe I will get lucky with a lightning storm and epic sunset.

Nice shot. I'm glad to see our rains returning with some frequency after many years. Any sign of a return to normalcy is a good one in my opinion. Let's hope for some more.

Thanks! We need a ton of rain to catch up for the last few years. It's been nice so far, but would like to see this continue throughout the entire summer. It would really help boost the fall colors and wildflowers in the high country as well as some waterfalls I've been wanting to shoot.
