Description
Commissioned by me, drawn by koralin-teaAlthough no longer Homo Sapiens, exhumans are no less alive and have their own distinct life-cycle. However, theirs is heavily augmented by science and technology mixed with a healthy dose of pseudo-religious mysticism.
When victims are abducted, they spend weeks, months, or even years as low-ranking fodder for the hive as their bodies and minds are molded into drones. Rarely is this time spent entirely stationary. Even the most tightly cocooned victim is released for various activities.
The attention lavished on neophytes is almost maternal. Captives, often still fully aware and highly resistant, are given a mixture of cold mechanical restraint and motherly attention. High-ranking members of the hive dote on them like friends or children. They remove them from restraints and provide long and therapeutic sessions of massage and meditation. Some are permitted to wander the hive like unaccompanied children - their arms and bodies still highly restricted in sacks, but allowed the opportunity to explore their home.
This contrasts sharply with the brutal efficiency of drones and their machines. Strict rubberization, encasement, and integration within machinery is a far cry from the motherly attention that "pupating" victims receive.
Much as a caterpillar becomes a chrysalis, this stage helps to reinforce training and social norms in the hive. Drones grow to love and obey their mistresses and masters. When combined with strange feedings of "honey" and other cocktails of machine augmentation, the result is an unbreakable bond of obedience in all but the most dominant of captives.

Nice idea, it be fun if during the pupation some of these "people" would be suspended upside down in some point in time XD

Logical! Love how you’re explaining the Hive members life cycle!

Yes indeed. Unfortunately, many exhumans are sterile - possibly a result of their process of indoctrination.
The result is that they need to frequently find new members to grow their ranks... : 3
After pupation, most graduate to either 'worker' or 'drone' status. Workers, as you've read, do most of the hive's work. Drones are generally used for a more specific purpose. I'm still trying to narrow down the design, since they are primarily used to consort with queens.

Yup! I've loved barcodes like that forever. They can disrupt a pretty hood, but they also tell a sort of story. : )

*chuckle*
Or a big one, if it's a barcode about the prevous identity of the drone, and more
