Description Coloured Ink on Bristol. Although chibi, I think the simplicity of Ra is best here as opposed to using a more realistic portrayal. The yellow ink was a pain to draw lines with because it seems to dry instantly in the pen nib, but what ink I could get on the page took forever to dry. Apparently the yellow ink didn't want to exhibit the evaporative properties of other inks. It's FIGHTING THE POWER!

This is the second page in a Childrens' Book all about Ra's night-time journey.

I mean there is a lot of theological history explaining why Zehuti was given Ma'at as his female counterpart. You know, the whole logic and truth thing.

"True...divided."
I'm pretty sure the latter is the case, only with less respect. Even when conquered, the local people cling to their religious beliefs, so the result is a mashup of government propaganda and the persistence of local tradition in spite of it.

Great work! And, very different, but interesting take on Ra. Is He supposed to be in his scarab beetle/human form? Please explain your take if you don't mind. I would like to understand it a bit more.

I was attempting to anthropomorphize Ra as the actual sun, not a depiction found otherwise in traditional Egyptian art. I used the inspiration of Khepri (beetle form) for his bug-like eyes. I didn't want to use the sun disk over the human form because looking ahead, drawing a giant glowing ball on top of his head on every page would be a problem compositionally. So I thought: what would the sun look like as a human? And what came to mind was a sort of fiery bridal image, with a flowing glowing gown and hair of pure flame. In class, showing this to someone, she asked "well I know Ra's a guy, but that seems sorta female, what's male about him?" I answered, "When he burns your face off." Dying a fiery death is rather male, i suppose. So I'll deserve all the barbs traditionalists will throw at me.

Truthfully - of course, this could be said about all the deities, and it's probably something beyond our understanding as humans - Ra could be considered dual sexed - or female and male. Every deity in Egypt - well, at least a good few - had a male and female counterpart - their self, but of the opposite sex. Bes and Beset, Ra and Ra'at, Amun and Amunet, etc. If I may say - when I saw his picture, I wondered about the flowing gown and all too, but I still got a 'male' sense about Him.

Thanks for the male sense... I try. It is very true about the dualities, even Ptah had a female counterpart. (I always found it funny that it was zehuti + ma'at, not zehuti + zehutet... but then again that "pairing" had its own history) I always considered this an outgrowth of the later philosophic movements that focused on mathematics and duality. Egyptian religion, many people do not realize, was not monolithic. Beliefs changed depending on the time and the place... it can get complicated for anyone!

What do you mean 'Zehuti + Zehutet... but then again that "pairing" had its own history'?

And you are very welcome hon.

True, the Ancient Egyptian belief system was very complex. I am not sure if that was designed or if it was because the people tried to be fair and respect the beliefs of the cities and nomes when the lands were divided.

Either way, it can and does present one with a headache of a puzzle to sort out.

Hmmmm... There are a lot of "Lords of Truth" or "Lords of Ma'at" out there. Ausir and Djehuty are two - Ausir is called A/The Ba of Ra, while Djehuty is Ra's (Amun-Ra's) vizier, so-to-speak...

:nods: It's all very abstract of course. The truth is, that isn't evrything a small facet of something else? the truth is best found in accepting and understanding all of creation. Is it wrong that despite his wisdom and level-headedness, a small part of me imagines Djehuty blathering on about The Learning Triangle ? Maybe to fool other people, or like when an artist draws stick figures on a lark...

Ra: The Nemeans are inbading our kingdom with their demon-infused elephants. Djehuty og my heart, advise me.
Djehuty: The beginning is the flow of north to south, the nemeans use copper, which is round, and roundness is not Jesus, who is west!
Ra: ... very funny, now can I get some actual help? Also who is Jesus?

Kind of reminds me of a Hercules cartoon episode, where some of the Greek Gods were playing golf, or croquet... The one God, I forget his name, but he knows all sorts of little tidbits of information that have no bearing on the present game, asks something to the others. Athena, clearly irritated, says, "No... Please enlighten us!" Something to that effect. Your little RP made me think of that. As for the real Djehuty, He probably does/can.

Oh I remember that episode! Do you remember the one where they switched the pantheons too?

Djehuty can get away with a LOT. I think whenever people get cryptic messages, that's him just having fun with them. If I were counted on to be the source of knowledge and culture, I'd probably amuse myself and others with riddles too!

Btw, while I'm giving out gift art, want any?

Ack! I love gift art! Awwww... thank you!

Well, you know 'Seta' - how about you draw her, based on what you perceive/know of me.

Seta's - to be quick, Seta is a name Set gave me. I'm thinking it may mean 'the female Set' but I'm not sure at all. I'm spelling it Seta...

So how's that - draw what you perceive my soul to be like.

Given to you by him? Are you a Kemetic? (I'm honestly curious.)

This is a big thing to attempt to draw, a soul, but I'll try my best. Gimme some time though, senior project and all. ><

No problem. School always comes first, but I know I don't have to say that.

Yes, I am devoted to Set, but I'm not Kemetic Orthodox. I used to be, but am no longer.

I am eclectic, to be fair; still, I try to stay true to Kemet in some fashion...

I know it's a 'big deal,' but don't get too bogged down on it. I trust you, just follow your heart.

(Here I go with over personal questions. Feel free to tell me to stfu.) How did you get into Kemeticism? Do you have family in it, or did you find it on your own? Is there an actual temple near where you live? What about orthodoxy turned you off? (Although I could guess that incessant Wesir worship would make ME gtfo. Fgsfds to that.)
