Description Being autistic is like being born
With the best singing voice
But being deaf
As to never hear it

I regard the world
From a world
Of my very own
Creation

The words
Printed upon the pages
Are just blurs
Of colorless rainbows

But the notes
Light up
The concerto of Beethoven
Takes life

This is when
All smile and take notice
That I'm not
Completely stupid

The world is a blur
Moving fast around me
And I am
A spectator

I wail and scream
For it to make sense
Or to slow it's pace
But it never does

Nobody listens to me,
They just smile
But their eyes
Show their pain

No parent
Wants their children
To be
Touched in the head

I'm autistic
I'm not stupid
I'm just different
Just accept it

I may be smarter
Than all around me
But I can't
Show it

I take in every word
In hopes of grasping
These petty problems
You dare to cry out

Sometimes you forget
I can hear like you
That I know when your eyes leak
It means you're sad

I know at times
You forget I too
Feel and fear
I'm more than you think

But then again
You don't think
Like I think
Because I think smart

When you realize
I don’t act like the other kids
You cry and glare at me
You forget I didn't choose to be this way

I'd love to be normal
But this "handicap" as you call it
Was never
A choice

Stop badmouthing me
In front of my face
My ears works fine
Thank you

Though, I think you mean "Or to slow its pace" instead of "Or to slow it's pace".

aw
I can tell all of this came from the heart. My brother is eleven and he can't speak and he's violent but I know he can understand me. I wrote a poem about him if you want to read it:
[link]

I would like to hear your input on it.
But I'm sorry to hear about your autism and that people treat you that way. When I go shopping with my mom and my brother people always stare at him. Sometimes i go up to them and tell them he has autism so they just walk away. Dumb people o_0

My deepest apologies for the late reply. I'm glad you enjoyed it, I actually do not have autism but this is how I imagine it must be from my experiences in life. I will be reading your poem within the next five minutes and you can expect feedback on it. And yes, sadly, people are very ignorant.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I think the largest problem is people don't even try to understand they just jump to assumptions and judge everything on face value.

ShenTsumi [2008-07-11 07:23:52 +0000 UTC]

Though this probably won't mean much, this poem really touched me today. You see, I have two autistic cousins, so from an early age I became accepting of those with dissabilities. One of my cusins just talked to me for the first time in 8 years the other day. It's so fresh and new, and when we speak I always wonder if he realizes that people rarely take him seriously. Like he''s some sort of animal. As it is with the "special" kids at school. Nobody will take them seriously. They'll humor them, then laugh at them to their faces, forgetting that at the end of the day when they go home that that "special" child goes home, too, back to a world of complications and nobody taking them seriously. This poem accurately depicts at least what I believe the autistic to think like. Thank you for this.

That's great, glad he's talking ^^

Yeah, exactly, just because we can't understand doesn't mean they aren't people with their own thoughts.

Np, glad you enjoyed.

And yeah, that does mean a lot to me that it touched you in some way. Wish your cousins all the best, sure they're great kids. ^^

Autistic kids grow up to be autistic adults. We remember people like you, those who had the good sense to love us and understand us in spite of ourselves.

Sign me an autistic adult.

I love this, autism is a gift.
There are just people in the world who can't see it.
Many famous people and inventors, have been said to have autism.
Like Einstein, and Graham Bell I think.
The world would be truly poor without autism.
I myself have aspergers syndrom, but I don't feel that I am anything less than anyone else.
Aspie pride!

octu140 In reply to pyro-pain [2008-02-27 15:43:02 +0000 UTC]

Exaktly, that's why I wonder why anyone would want to try and cure it.
What is there to cure in the first place? It's not a sickness, it's just another way of thinking outside the box.

pyro-pain In reply to octu140 [2008-02-28 02:33:00 +0000 UTC]

The only thing I wish is that those higher on the Autism spectrum could express themselves further (through talking), but they do communicate through their amazing gifts.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

octu140 In reply to pyro-pain [2008-02-28 17:13:52 +0000 UTC]

When I don't know someone I find it hard to start a conversation, but my mother say when I start talking I could easily talk someones ears off. So have have more problems with the way I communicate, than the so called "normal people". But since I was little, I have always loved to play with words. And I still do so by writting poetry, songs and stories.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pyro-pain In reply to octu140 [2008-03-01 01:07:59 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see.
Lol, playing with words is always interesting and I'm sure you can "talk someone's ear off" so to speak, but that is awesome btw.

Yeah, I'm not good at talking to people normally...seldomly I can manage a halfway decent conversation, unless I really trust the person that is.
