Spike's scornful attitude towards his roots is Jade's pet peeve. She calls him ignorant and "as arrogant as a pony" for scoffing at his fellow dragons. Spike obviously doesn't take this very well.Related content

A part of me always wished that there was at least one dragon in Dragon Quest who although does the same things other teenage dragons do, they would also be a bit more mild-mannered and actually have morals in fact, they would of even help Spike and girls escape Garble and his crew.
If they did this, the episode would be better and more evened out (despite the episode slowly side-tracking from Spike's search of his origins), the friendship letter would of had a better lesson(being proud of your heritage and what you are, as well as who you are), Spike wouldn't have to think that dragons are complete jerks and he would start showing more interest in his race again.
On an interesting note, I came across a comment somewhere on the web(Derpibooru I think?) about season 4 having a new dragon and they posted a link leading to the dragon. Instantly I perked up and wanted to find out more. Although when I clicked on the link it led me back a pic of Jade on your site I though to myself: "People thought that Jade was a season 4 dragon ? 1. If only it was true. 2. Yep you're that good"
Also good job on the pic when I first looked at it I kinda jumped when I saw the rage on their faces.

Needless to say I am disappointed with how Dragon Quest turned out. The moment Spike decided to stick with the teenage dragons I knew it was going to be "Spike's Search" all over again. But it does leave other opportunities. For example, sometimes a person has to revise what they learned in the past. You can't keep doing or thinking the same way without questioning it after a while. This could be a good lesson to learn.
Another scenario is that an adult dragon or one of the teenage dragons gets injured and Fluttershy needs to get over her fear in order to treat the wounds. There are many possibilities.
And yes, that was Depribooru. It made me chuckle, since that image was from back when I could barely draw Jade and still had lots of trouble adapting the MLP style.
The expressions are ridiculous, which is exactly the point. I love showing extreme emotions in my drawings. This is one of those fights that, after these two make up, strengthens their friendship.

A little? He's like a black kid that grew up in a white town and on his few encounters with other blacks he happened to get a bad impression of them, so he turned just as biased as the people in his surrogate parents' community.

Sounds like Jade fail to understand (or at least empathize with the fact) that every encounter Spike has had with his own species has been a negative one. To which Jade could reply, "Including me?"

That is Jade's main issue with his behavior. He knows next to nothing about dragons, but he's still judgemental.

I suppose being raised by a peaceful race such as ponies, and having every dragon he has encountered within the show try to harm him. That would leave him with a bad impression. Kind of explains why he loves Rarity. He was raised like a pony and so he associates with them. Though the age gap and what he became in Equestria Girls would kind of imply any possible relationshp between them wouldn't work out in the long run.

It couldn't work out, even if Spike was a pony. Spike and Rarity's personalities are utterly incompatible.

Yeah and Spike is just a kid, where as Rarity is a young adult. A lot of fans go for that pairing, and I myself have been more neutral towards it now. In fact in the show and the comic, I can't tell if the creators are going for that pairing with the eps like "Secret of My Excess", and the recent arc in the comics. Plus the whole "Spikey Wikey" addearation. To be honest I am really confused if their relationship implies Rarity has a thing for Spike, or just a cute crush or whatever. Honestly I'd like to hear your opinion on the matter.
I guess this is kind of why I am a big SpikexJade supporter. Spike I think needs another dragon friend his own age, one who was raised amongst dragons and thus has a broader understanding of dragon culture. Or at least one that isn't a rowdy teenager. Plus I imagine them going through the same pain and loss that comes with growing up. Being dragons, they are blessed and cursed with long lifespans. Spike will probably outlive his pony friends, save for Celestia who is possibly immortal. I know you've left Spike and Jade's relationship up in the air, especially since your story is being developed as the show is airing and with season 4 looming on the horizon, we don't know how the storyline of season 4 will affect anyone's headcanon. But I could easily see a relationship growing throughout their long lives ultimately culminating into an admittal of feelings and beyond.
I apologize if I rambled there. It's just seeing this pic reminded me of past talks and your thoughts on "Secret of my Excess". That and I guess it is the writer in me. Man I feel like writing something now.

I think that Rarity is just being nice to a little kid with a crush on her. I actually think it's pretty impressive and sad/creepy at the same time to what lengths people will go to justify this ship, while keeping their ages the way they are.

That makes sense. Besides, Spike still has a long way to go before he is an adult. One day he will realize the difference between infatuation and true love.

Geez, I'd understand Spike's dislike of his dragon roots, if a bunch of teenage dips-hits of ANY species think it be fun to kill something before it's even born... Well yeah. Nonetheless it's not right to judge an entire race just cause of a few assholes. I guess since Spike is talking crap about her people, I guess she sees fit to respond to him in kind. Which of course would never solve any problem. XD
