Description
...Sometimes, the dragon wins. Or in this case, the dragon of a project. I didn't like the balance of visual elements in the first version - I eyeballed the positions of the gold shiny bits that were around the outside of the blue beads, rather than using my compass and placing them precisely. It was definitely off-center and aligned weirdly.Though I can compensate for the imbalance digitally, I disliked the actual artwork enough that I decided to rip off all the gold shinies (which of course damaged the top layers of the matboard...) and replace them with foil-print scrapbook paper and blue shinies. Now I'm much happier with it.
This project ended up in a different place than it was when I started - not unusual in and of itself, but getting from beginning point to end point took more effort this time.
I drew the central dragon design originally as a commission for someone, who then dropped off the face of the internet when it came time to consult on next steps and arrange for payment. I let the design sit around for several years before I inked it, then for several more before I decided to add color and finishing work. Now I've turned a burn into a win, and I'm reasonably pleased with the result!
I colored the dragons with Prismacolor pencils. The background is matboard over which I've sewn gold thread (for the symmographic line design), blue coral beads, and shiny bits.
Original art: sold.
Matted prints: See Print Prices and Information for size and price availability.
