Description
11x14" scratchboard with colored inks. It is based on a photograph I took at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. This was my first try coloring scratchboard and it was kind of an adventure! I used Winsor & Newton drawing inks first but didn't like them, so I switched to Liquitex drawing ink halfway through and liked that much better.I gave the original to my great aunt for her 100th birthday in early October 2009. Prints are available (note me.)

Did you use prism color marker or what sort of ink? I am doing the same thing with a lion after seeing an amazing piece in person. This would help me lots thanks

I used Winsor & Newton drawing inks and Liquitex drawing ink. These are just little glass pots of ink and I used a paintbrush to apply them. Prismacolor markers might work too, but I've never tried it so I don't know. Might be worth experimenting!

This is the most incredible scratchboard piece I have ever seen! How did you apply the color, if you don't mind my asking? Very beautiful!

I am in awe! Scratchboard is one of my favorite mediums, but I've never yet felt confident enough to color it!This is really incredible, the detail work on each individual feather, the exact attention to lighting...amazing work!!!!! I don't know what else to say!
