Description 11x14" scratchboard with colored inks. It is based on a photograph I took at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. This was my first try coloring scratchboard and it was kind of an adventure! I used Winsor & Newton drawing inks first but didn't like them, so I switched to Liquitex drawing ink halfway through and liked that much better.

I gave the original to my great aunt for her 100th birthday in early October 2009. Prints are available (note me.)

Seriously fantastic. The flamingo came out so elegantly. You said you tried coloring the scratchboard? What do you mean by that? Do you mean that you scratched out what you wanted and then went over the uncolored spots and painted in the color?

I can't help but think of the sequence from Fantasia 2000 to Camille Saint-Saens "Carnival of the Animals" Finale. Brilliant.

That would be an amazing render even in a medium I consider reasonably easy to control--but scratchboard? Such amazing transitions of light and dark, and detailing! And your addition of color is seamless and perfectly produced. I'm throughly flabberghasted.
