Description
Alien 28" Tall X 20" WideThis is the Alien piece I have been working on for the last three weeks, the absolute hardest project I have ever tried to design. After painting on a black base coat I added brown highlights because I thought it looked more organic and also made a new stand. My girls talked me into adding the drool using a hot glue gun...every Alien has a bit of slobber. Made from 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood, and using interlocking pieces, there is no glue holding him together...there are three locking pieces that do that. I really love the way he turned out.

Thank you for your comment on my 3D Alien. It was a huge task and took almost a month to design...has over 300 pieces. I love designing these 3D pieces. using a dozen or so reference pictures I download and create a standing model, I am always amazed when it is done that I actually made that. Right now I am in the middle of making Optimus Prime with his War Ax and will be over 18" high. Recently I have been making 3D pieces for my POP BobbleHeads. I will be designing a Speeder Bike for my Imperial Scout, a TIE Fighter for my Imperial Pilot, a Hippogriff for my Harry Potter and a Giant SeaTurtle for my Capt. Jack Sparrow.

Thank you for your comment on my alien. Designing and fabricating 3D models has been a passion of mine for over 10 years. That Alien was the most complicated piece I ever designed. Right now I just started designing a 3D wooden Optimus Prime. As with all my other 3D pieces, it won't need glue to put together. The Alien was designed that way, but I had to glue it because it was going to be on display at The California State Fair.

Hi Dinobatfan,
Thank you for your comment on the Alien. I love the picture you use for your profile, Godzilla rules. I am planning some day to design a 3D wood Godzilla. Back to Alien. I have been wanting to do Alien for a couple of years and finally got up the courage to do it, because I knew it was going to be difficult to design. With most of my 3D stuff, I can design and cut it out in about a week, Alien took almost a month. The break through was when I decided to add a stand for him to be attached to...that made the piece a lot more stable. He went through 4 design changes, mainly with the torso. My girls talked me into adding the drool with a hot glue gun. I love how he turned out, menacing enough. Now I plan on re-designing my Werewolf with a better, more aggressive stance by putting him on a stand. Talk to you later, Don
