Description
Since most of my time has been devoted to computers recently, I thought it appropriate to share with you some pictures of my current machine, which is still a bit of a work in progress (computers always are for enthusiasts though, the day I call this rig finished is the day it has become my backup rig). I've spent a fair amount of time tweaking and messing with this machine, it's been good to me despite a few poor choices on my part parts-wise, and I'm at least proud of it enough to post it here, even if it is in scraps. Constructive criticism regarding cabling methods/modding much appreciated.Case: Cooler Master RC690
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P DS3 Rev. 1.0
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2GHz (400MHz x8 )
Graphics: HIS ICEQ 3 Radeon X1900XT 256MB
Memory: 2x1GB G.Skill DDR2 800
Sound: Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
Power: Corsair HX520w
Storage: Seagate 7200.10 320GB SATA 3.0Gb/s
Cooling: Thermalright SI-128 SE w/ Noctua NF-P12 fan
Things in progress:
Upgrading the IDE DVD ROM drive to a SATA DVD RW
Finalizing cable routing and sleeving
Installing case speaker
Installing more optional fans (and getting rid of the stock case fan) and fan controller
Changing stock chipset coolers for aftermarket copper or tower-style coolers, space permitting
Changing stock expansion blanking plates to Lian-Li aluminum vented blanking plates
Possible case paint job to a gloss black interior (this will take the case out of commission for a rather long time)
Possible interior modding on certain unnecessary plastic bits and to install a 120mm fan in the 5.25" cage
Moving hard drive to a proper hard drive cooler in the upper 5.25" bay (depends on the fan mod)
Graphics card upgrade coming later this year (no current card on the market worth the upgrade price)
Upgrade to 4x1GB of RAM, possible full replacement for 4x1GB of Crucial Ballistix RAM (possible issues with this motherboard and a 4x1GB configuration, still researching the issue)
No other upgrades immediately being considered.

I think I'm gonna get a whole second computer first. I really want a Mac. I just like the atmosphere of Macs better.

Only time I'd ever look to Apple for a computer is if I were to buy a laptop.

I wouldn't buy one from them. My next computer, is definitely either restoring an older one, or building from scratch. I'm sick of people like Dell, over pricing.

Custom-built is the only way I recommend anyone go.

I agree. Cheaper, faster, and more fun.
