Description
It will be recognised that there are two approaches to dealing with Balthier's vest:The first involves an eye for incredible detail and either sufficient draftsmanship/dogged determination to render it or enough cleverness to simplify it in a satisfying fashion.
This is the second.
Laziness, eh?Otherwise, I don't really know what he's looking at. Fran, perhaps?

I had completely forgotten that this was still in my gallery; I actually thought I took it down. Look up morning of the magicians, that one.. well, it still embarrasses me.. but not nearly as badly as this one, which was done after a solid year and a half of drawing nothing. (Long story.)

Technically, he's looking at Fran (she will eventually be sprawled across his shoulder; this Balthier replaces the Baldwin-brother in 'sketch for Magicians,' since I never could get that one looking right) ... but for all that, Vaan would probably still get this look even if Fran was on his shoulder when Vaan showed up. Balthier is just... Balthier like that, you know?

LOL I totally agree with you on the vest! Its too damn hard to draw. I prefer him with it on because I feel its part of his character. But ...I am not complaining with the nekki-ness

To me, Balthier just isn't Balthier without at LEAST his earrings and spiky hair. He's just.. just.. not himself, I can't explain it! Obviously I don't mind drawing him wearing only his earrings, do ? Heeheeheehee...

I completely understand. I have to say...I do have a slight *cough* crush on him...but what makes it really pathetic...he is a freaking animation! *cries* lol! I drew him the other night and his jewlery made him look really gay...I hated the pic for a while so I changed the face around a but more and I found I could keep the jewlery and make him Balthier-ish without gay lol!

Heeheehee! That was really fun to draw! I would like to feed you some artsy line 'bout how I was experimenting with a different way to define the human form.. but I'd be lying! I was having fun drawing Balthier's shirtless chest, WOOO.
About the hair, thank you! There are only a very.. very.. er, very... few things that I feel more 'Yay!' than 'Nervous!' when I am colouring them, and hair is one. I can be confident, colouring hair. Now, the other 9/10ths of any given figure...

Haha, but the results are still fabulously refreshing and organic! Clean lines are good but sometimes you need scribbly ones to get at the content. And yes, Balthier needs more vestless time XD
Sometimes too perfect lines just rob a picture of its playfulness and just make it sterile. This style just screams Balthier to me!

Personally, I almost like this one more than the others you have on here. I think it's because I appreciate good linework, and I love the way you did the accents on his chest.
