Since I saw some of the more recent designs for Tron: Legacy, I felt a couple characters reminded me of the designs I was seeing of Vanitas slightly. Black form fitting suits with bright markings and dark helms. Gee, I wonder why.Anyway, I was inspired by what was then called Player 1 (Clu 2.0) and by a character named Rinzler. Especially Rizler, given his dynamic poses and particularly mysterious nature. It seems he's pit against the main character, Sam Flynn.
And just as Vanitas's face was supposed to be a shock to players, I'm about 95% certain Rinzler will be the same way to viewers. Guess I'll find out in several hours, right? I'll just say the 4 little squares on his outfit tipped me off.
Tron is copyright Disney, Vanitas is copyright Square Enix and Disney.

I've heard a rumor that Rinzler was actualy modeled after Vanitas as a thank-you to KH for putting the classic TRON in KH2 and keeping kids interested... IDK if it's true but it's a fun story.
I took 2 friends with me 2 see that movie in IMAX 3D-I was the only one who knew the Classic Tron (and I'd seen the squares in the promos too), my friend "Axel" had already seen Legacy and "Xaldin" hadn't seen either, so I showed them both a screenshot of a certain character from the classic, and there was a Rinzler close-up where I heard "Xaldin" gasp... and I was just thinking, "Heeheehee, she got it."

There are two ways for this to actually happen in the kingdom hearts universe that would make sense. Either the data they had on Vanitas came too life in The Grid(TL version of the world) or he is reborn with Ventus and follows Sora everywhere. This is very well done by the way.

This is kool. And yea the entire Tron:Legacy film gave me a giant Kingdom Hearts/Star Wars feel. But i loved it so wat evs XD

Joys about playing Evolution before watching the movie, it confirmed who RinzRinz is way before the end of the movie. But everyone who saw the original shoulda know in the first place!! hahaha

Right on the money. And yeah, the squares/general differences in costume design tipped me off too, especially since I re-watched the original the night before. Saw the reveal coming, but it just made then ending that much more epic!
I don't know what you thought, but I was totally blown away by "Legacy." Totally worth the resulting zombie-dom to go see it at midnight!

Yeah, I figured it out a few days before, and I was 95% certain of it and became sure of it after a line tossed out 5 minutes before a character confirmed it.
I'm a night-owl, so that's no big for me. But I plan to see it again. [I]Today.[/i] There's a new installment written, waiting to be greenlit if this does well enough this weekend. I want more Tron.

The fact that his costume was so different from the others and the comment made about importing him from the old system was what cinched it for me, combined with the squares. Awesome twist!
I'm not, so today will be kinda tough. Especially since I fully intend to go see it again tonight after various commitments...after all, my brain's still in the Grid and I need to go retrieve it.

Huh, I missed that they said "Rinzler" was imported. But yes, I kept sitting through the movie thinking "NO, don't strike Rinzler down! Just immobilize him or something!"
I almost did tonight, but it was sold out (YAY) and I couldn't go to the late one and stay awake. But yeah, I think mine is too. Tron is about all I'm thinking about right now, a big switch from Atlantis or Kingdom Hearts. I can't express how much I want this to do well and I wish I could know just how well it's doing right this second.

I did manage to find a non-sold out and operational theater by me and watched it again. It was a pain to get a ticket since the theater closest to my house had their 3-D projector break!
Well, "Rinzler" wasn't imported, but his alter ego was, as it were. If you watch the flashback scenes closely enough it becomes obvious (hard to do on a first viewing), but if you're super observant (and watched the original recently) you could've guessed it as early as the light disk duel. Nearly smacked myself upside the head during that scene for not realizing it sooner the first time around!
If/when you do see it again, pay very, very close attention to the end of the duel between Sam and Rinzler. I think you'll probably catch what I mean, but again, you'd have to have seen the original fairly recently to make the connection.
Think I got most of my brain back from the Grid now...we'll find out for sure tomorrow!

Yeah, that I caught. Yeah, you have to notice the design at the collar bone. or do you mean when he says, "User." Second time I saw it I was like, "oooooh."

It was cool because I got to compare the UltraScreen and IMAX formats. They're pretty similar visually, but the sound was much more impressive in the UltraScreen: when the first Recognizer appeared on screen to grab Sam, the floor was literally shaking.
In my case, I have what's known as facial blindness, which means I recognize people by their voices, not faces (which is part of why I didn't pick up on the squares design immediately). So Rinzler saying "User" generally should have been enough to tip me off immediately as normally I would have picked up on the voice. But my brain was still like "Whoa!" on seeing the new Grid, so yeah. Definitely got it the second time around.
The other mild tip off is just how much better at fighting he is than any other program, even CLU 2. The light disk sequence with him was a joy to watch, almost more so than the light jets at the end, though that was pretty amazing too.
Got enough of the brain back to function, so I can't complain too much. I still catch myself daydreaming quite a bit, though.
Hopefully going to go see it with my family over the holidays, and for sure with a bunch of friends on New Year's Day. Should be a blast!
