King Sombra is pretty fuckin' scary.How much the fandom underestimates Sombra is hilarious and pathetic in equal measure. While they make Gak jokes, I see how terrifying Sombra really is.
After being suspended a thousand years with their memories wiped, his victims were STILL unable to forget the horrors he brought upon them. Before even seeing his face, when they felt his familiar presence, a few of them were so scared, they were prepared to run out into the frozen tundra to freeze to death.
Take a few steps back and think about how fortunate they were to have sealed him away before he revived himself, and if anyone denies the amount of damage he could cause to Equestria, there's the door, get out, you're an idiot.

This is probably the most grimdark thing I've ever drawn. I like "what if" scenarios, and if Sombra won... well, I wouldn't bet on anypony's deaths (or the death of our poor Twilight here) being without suffering.
Also, yes, that's the Crystal Heart in his "chest."

Incredible. Absolutely captures the intensity that is Sombra's powers. The fandom makes fun of him, but it's a bit ridiculous. Cadance had to work herself to near death just to keep him out of the Crystal Empire, and still failed. His power to inflict fear, and not just fear, but the worst fears of his victim's hearts. When Twilight looks into his door, not him directly, just a door he's cast a spell on, she's so engrossed in her fear that she doesn't even realize she's just standing in a doorway. This work is perfect. Had Twilight failed, the fear the doorway inflicted upon her would have seemed like child's play. Sombra is truly terrifying and this captures it pretty well.

This picture captures that flowing menace of King Sombra by making him the border around the page. To me that makes it feel like he is really closing in on Twilight. Seeing her caught in that basilisk-like gaze is a very interesting visual. Her faded colors also help set the grim tones of this picture. I believe it was a good decision to keep his face more detailed to help show he is still a pony and a part of the world despite the almost draconic shape to the face and brow. The only reason I gave this a low originality rating is because it is fan art and not created by the artist. My only other complaint is that I feel the bright Crystal heart draws focus away from the main conflict and could have been left out without diminishing the final picture. But it's as grim as to be expected from that story arc!

Well for them it was actually like only as if it was yesterday since they were suspended frozen in time. And their memories could have been wiped by Sombra before his banishment.
Β He also wasn't sealed away. This time it seems hey tryed to actually kill him. Luckily the horn survived so we might actually see him terrorize ponies in season 4.

I feel Sombra had some of the most potential to be a villain, but it was wasted and he had like zero dialogue. He seems really cool, being an icon of fear and shadows, but I can't really love a force alone. Also, if he had more motivation aside from just having "slaves" and "crystals", he probably wouldn't have been seen as such a joke. As far as the show illustrates, he was a villain strictly for the purpose of being a villain.

Love the description. It's not a matter of people thinking Sombra is weak, it's that he has about as much depth as a kiddie pool and absolutely no personality. Christ's sake the villain in Thor 2 had more of a personality.Β

Me and my friend have always been thinking like that! I mean, he is pretty scary. That's why he's my favorite. People think hes the worst villain. You ever realize how childish Discord and Chrysalis and Nightmare Moon were compared to Sombra? Discord was considered a villain because of his chaos. Chrysalis because she fed off love. Nightmare Moon because she wanted to "shroud the whole land in darkness". But Sombra, he wanted to ENSLAVE and most likely TORTURE ponies. And think, this was in a kids show. Pretty intense. I really think they didn't go very in-depth because they didn't want to scar kids for life. I mean, learning about slavery in SCHOOL was iffy for me. And that was in, oh, 5th grade? My Little Pony was MEANT for little girls (But it is now for everybody.) My little pony was a little kids show. But, the writers have made it more awesome, and bronies formed. But, they still gotta keep it kid-friendly. That' just my input.Β

Obviously the writers couldn't delve deep into a character that brings outright fear and horror where ever he goes.....but I wish they did.
From a fanfic writers perspective he's kinda a gift. He's a blank slate that you can do almost anything with and I've read some good fics where people have done just that

Fandom is underestimating him, because he was just another enemy character in the show, underdeveloped and left alone in the dark by writers. The only thing that can help him is character development by fandom (and that is happening for quite some time).
BTW Sombra in this looks more like "DAFUQ?!" than "Mwahahaha >:)". Just saying

Don't care about the GAK-Jokes and the ignrorance the fandom gives him, for me he is the best villian this far. Also he is truley evil and thats what i like about him.
