Description King Sombra is pretty fuckin' scary.

How much the fandom underestimates Sombra is hilarious and pathetic in equal measure. While they make Gak jokes, I see how terrifying Sombra really is.

After being suspended a thousand years with their memories wiped, his victims were STILL unable to forget the horrors he brought upon them. Before even seeing his face, when they felt his familiar presence, a few of them were so scared, they were prepared to run out into the frozen tundra to freeze to death.

Take a few steps back and think about how fortunate they were to have sealed him away before he revived himself, and if anyone denies the amount of damage he could cause to Equestria, there's the door, get out, you're an idiot.

---------------------

This is probably the most grimdark thing I've ever drawn. I like "what if" scenarios, and if Sombra won... well, I wouldn't bet on anypony's deaths (or the death of our poor Twilight here) being without suffering.
Also, yes, that's the Crystal Heart in his "chest."

See, the reason people think Sombra was a joke was because when he actually made his appearance, he didn't do much.

Some people need to stop and think instead of just judging his actions in the episode.

Ah yes... MLP's own Sauron. I personally think he was an excellent villain, for the same reasons you've already pointed out. He's also the only major villain so for who's forced the mane 6 into the "kill or be killed" position. It will prove difficult to top something like that.

still doesn't change the fact that the regal sistes are more powerful tahn him. he even had the crystal heart to begin with a thousand years back.... not denying that he would be a threat, and likely because of similar levels of power that is why the sistes wanted ot avoid direct conflict to avoid damage, but his new reign would be shorter than the last, thoguh not without casualties. but still get owned by the pretty sparkly pony princesses.........

okay maybe i am riffing on the guy, but ultimately he is not a force that was either too difficult to defeat mundanely, like discord, nor a surprise attack that amagned to overpower a unsuspecting celestia, with chrysalis. he was something they directly fought and defeated without aid of the elements of harmony.
peronsally......... i like the idea behind him but he needed back story, sombra. or he needed actual lines and characterization. he does not ahve the same Presence as a sauron character should have. hell i want to know what happened to the original ruler of the crystal empire. i want to know how he ended up as he was.................

actually he did have potential because he was the first truly, full blown evil villain we had that was actually a pony. all the others were fallen angels, chaos demons, and vampiric abberrations, not a normal form of pony turned into a monster.

Well, King Sombra's worst nightmare spell thingy won't work on me, because my worst nightmare is king Sombra.

There for it will create a ever lasting paradox in my head making king Sombra less of a fear to me resulting in a parallel universe implosion.

Yes, he is frightening. The problem is that Sombra was handled pretty poorly by the creators. He could have been an unforgettable, terrifying villain, and with more dialogue and screentime (AND CHARACTERIZATION) he could have been. But we got a generic doomsday villain who was purposely put in as a Sauron expy, which was only effective in Sauron's case because he was still expanded upon throughout three books/movies, and has hundreds of thousands of minions at his disposal to give weight to his threat level. Sombra didn't have any minions whatsoever, and appeared/was mentioned in a grand total of five minutes' worth of scenes out of forty-four. I like Sombra for what he could have been.

Giving him more dialogue would have reduced his impact. It would have made him more relatable, more human (well, more pony-like). Sombra's lack of dialogue and backstory is what makes him impactful. If he spoke more, he would have been just another evil overlord. But because he doesn't, that makes him more alien, and in turn more terrifying. He is like pure fear given physical form. Hell, this is probably exactly WHY he doesn't speak much. He knows what strikes terror in the hearts of his subjects. If he rambled on like Chrysalis, he would not invoke the same horror his non-speaking presence does.

Some people say he didn't do anything. Except that's not true. He did everything he could do, both 1000 years ago (by placing nasty traps around the Heart and making it so that it can't be reached without using his own dark magic) and in the present. Because Sombra does not mess around like, say, Discord, and is not incompetent like, say, Chrysalis, just him getting past Cadence's field before the Heart is recovered is an instant game over for the Crystal Empire. Even though he does not "do" much, he is still what drives the plot. He is why Cadence has to suffer, why Twilight needs to hurry, why the other Mane Six are forced to desperately hide the truth of the missing Heart from the populace. He does not NEED to "do" anything more. The Empire is already his. He is just reclaiming it. Just his sheer arrival into the Empire is essentially a game over for the heroes.

Then again, a LOT of the more dangerous villains in the series could've used a bit more screentime.

At least Discord gets more screentime, as does Nightmare Moon. Chrysalis at least gets to show up again in the comics. Sombra? Dead, swept under the rug, and never mentioned again.

XD Well grimdark works from time to time. As a grimdark lover, I find this quite appealing (and no not because she is dying). Her color fading, the swell of tears, and his presence surrounding the scene... Works really well in instilling the idea and making a "what if" seem very plausible (with in its own world, mind you). But I'm not a good enough to be a critic though.... or was it those that can't draw become critics?...

That would've been a grim ending. And it also looks like good fanfic material though. ^_^
