Description
The Sprinter class was designed by Billy Main in 1890. They were built in a program by Bea Works to make new designs based on the Magical Quadruplets.
This class of 2-4-0s was meant for branchline and suburban passenger work, as well as the occasional shunting. Trials were held with the prototype for two years, after which several other members of the class were built.
They were fairly successful, but by 1934, they were worn out. As a result, they went in for an overhaul in de following months, where they received multiple internal upgrades, as well as a larger firebox.
